Porsche 911 GT3

So this is my next build:


Tamiya Porsche 911 GT3 kit number: 24229

The bodyshell and sprues are stamped "1998", with the GT3 additional parts sprue stamped 2001. Which would probably be about when I bought it, put it in the stash/storage, and is only now being built.

Inspiration / reference:


A quick flick through the instructions show typical Tamiya, however one step did pique my interest.



When they say "Finish with sandpaper" what they actually mean is 'sand these things off'.
There are a few mould lines on the bodyshell at the back and along the front wings (which no matter what I did, just wouldn't produce a picture; they were just glare) along with these... things:

Again, the front refused to picture; I don't know if it was the time of day or the exposure on my camera (I only use the camera in my phone) or whatever, but all the pics of the front were just full of glare and no detail.
There are some ejector pin marks on some of the body pieces. Rear wing for example:



but most of them have been strategically placed so that they won't be seen on the finished model - except for these on the rear wing. Well done by Tamiya on that one.

You also get a piece of.... felt? material? stuff, anyway, to line the rear of the cockpit tub as the GT3 doesn't have rear seats.



And so far I have completed this:



The exhause pipes proved to be a real PITA. They cross over and under each other twice and are both solid pieces from the header to the tailpipe; if I had four pairs of hands then this would have been easy; as it goes it took about 20mins worth of swearing when they kept popping out, and then about 10mins of work after I broke out the 'helping hands' to hold both the floor pan and one of the pipes whilst I threaded them together.

I'm not going to paint it one of the box/instructions given colours which are: black, red, yellow, silver and white.
I'm thinking orange over black, but will decide for sure when I start slinging some paint.
