Restoring Old Models -Will Glue hold Styrene to painted part?

I’m restoring some old models a friend has left me. Can I glue plastic to other plastic parts that have paint on their surface?

Glue to paint is a bit iffy bud

What kind of cement are you thinking of using??

I'm using IPS Weld-On 16 Acrylic Plastic Cement (recommended by someone on this site as superior to Tamiya glue for restoring old models).

PS I'm finding the IPS Weld-On 16 a bit runny and difficult to apply neatly -it does seem to make a stronger bond tho.

Ya that is a new one to me, plumbing supply product???
I would have used a Ca (cyanoacrylate) glue ="crazy glue"and activator or kicker to make it snap set
But then I would likely try and get a plastic joint as I scrape my painted areas free of cement. You might not have the luxury of doing that depending on location

The styrene cements (Tamiya extra thin, Testors, Revell )actually melt the plastic to each other to form their bond, so don't work well with paint in the way
