Tamiya GT-R. 2008 model

Starting another car model as I am 95% done on the Corvette C7R I am building. I have a Tamiya GT-R 2008 model I am going to build. This is the kit I am building

The color I have picked for the model is Splash Super Silver with a black primer base layer

I started yesterday and I have removed all the mold lines and burs from the body. I have preped the body for primer and layer down some black primer on the body


Tomorrow after my yard work and if it is not to humid I will start to lay down some paint on the body parts.

I have a quick update: I was able to lay down 5 coats of Splash Super Silver and then the Splash P2K. I grabbed a shot of the body in the bench vent just prior to placing in the big Tupperware container to cure for a week.
here is a quick shot: I will post better pictures next Tuesday when I remove after the P2K cures. The color in here sucks as the LED's are 6900 K vs the proper 5500 daylight and correcting to balanced lighting from my phone does not go very well. But the lights were cheep and work great for painting. The color on the roof is the proper color. The body is too yellow due to 2 different light sources.

I have an update: I painted some of the chassis parts while I had some free time.


Yesterday I did all that detail work to the chassis painting all that Aluminum on the black chassis around the drive shafts (2) and wiring trays. It was a bit of a bugger to do all that taping to get this done. I have done all the small bits parts. Now when the paint dries to assemble.

I have a couple in the stash (an R33 and R34) but will be interested to see how this goes. Nice.

If I can ask a question regarding the chassis of the car. I'm a bit confused as to the process for painting.

I've painted my Subaru chassis in Mica blue (after primer) but now I need to add some detail in other colours. Should I have masked those areas off before I painted it all blue or can I just paint over the top of the blue?

Thanks so much Neil! IT is better to mask off prior but you can paint over. I am now painting over painted and cleared area's on the body spots of X-10 (Gun Metal) as it is easier to paint after the main body is done. If you are painting a light color like white over blue it will take many coats vs painting dark over light colors.
