Display cabinets/cases

Post by pikos »

Ok, made a little search on the forum and found nothing about this, but if I missed it please show me the post and delete this.
So, the matter of discussion is the number one problem I have right now (seems that resolving a problem, another one pops out immediately so you always have one at hand...)

WHERE SHOULD/COULD I STORE MY FINISHED PROJECTS?

Being an active modeler again, means that projects are finished and more space is needed. I build tanks, dioramas, figures and recently started planes and cars. I have a display case from IKEA, which is very good, protects the models from dust, but is full already. Also, there's no much space left in man cave to have another one. So I guess, I should be moving elsewhere (living room maybe, not sure because the wife is a bit tall and wears big sized sleepers which cause a lot of pain once thrown).

Anyway, where do you stash/display your finished projects? Not only for storage of course, but somewhere they can be seen (being older makes us fearless, or at least shameless for our work). I am looking for something with protective glass around, lightening and if possible pretty enough for being in a place other than man cave

Ikea makes the Billy bookcase with glass doors and there might be a version that fits with another room. Or there's other options from Ikea:

The glass door Billy is in this one for a couple of seconds

Yeah, I know about them. The small one is what I have already. The other one is beautiful but a bit too expensive imo. But searching around the internet haven’t found anything cheaper. I really don’t know. I feel a bit stuck about this. Other solutions would be a self with no glass, very economic solution and easy to establish, with lots of space but the dust will be a bigger problem tomorrow. What everybody else has on their caves/rooms?

More shelves can be added to the detof display case... you just need some more clamps on the frame.

I have the same problems as Pikos mentioned. One solution I thought of was to get old glass from doors, refrigerators and the like to make up my own . Problem being getting enough glass all the same size as toughened glass doesn't cut well.
