Hey....newbie here

Post by Ghostmonkey »

Hey all, as the title says newbie here
Used to mad about making models as a kid...38 + years ago.
Started up again a few years ago, got an airbrush did a couple of builds then stopped.
Just started again and doing well on my new build
Revell ju87b stuka. Come up against a few uncertainties so I thought I would come and ask the experts :D ....been watching on youtube a lot but cant find my answers

So hey again and is there a specific part of the forum for questions?

Hello and welcome
You can ask your question right here
OR
Start a build thread in the aircraft section and show us the issue:

OR
Use the general modelling chat section for a question:

most of them nose dived in...groan :)
It's more of an issue with paint, coating etc

I'm using mr hobby paints and would like to use the tamiya panel line , but am unsure as to what coating to use before the panel line and also what to use to clean up the excess
Also would humbrol decalfix be ok to use and at what stage??? Before the panel line or after

So, how I would do an aircraft after paint
*Clear coat...I use Future as I am in NA and cheap. You are UK, so I would suggest Aqua Gloss Clear
*Decals onto a nice smooth clear surface...controversial in some eyes and loudmouths
*Panel lines...with a clear on it doesn’t matter what, I make my own with India ink; Tamiya will be fine. Or oils
*weathering...I use Ultimate’s clay based products. Again with a clear on you can wipe it all off if you screw up. Other brands fine here too AK, Ammo etc
*flat coat....I hate the Testors one and use Windsor and Newton flat, but there are others. This makes the model less shiny and toy-like

So not written in stone, general accepted suggestions especially for just starting out
Then you can make variations and try other stuff
Hope that helps a bit
