I tried using star and bar stencils for a recent build just to give them a try. I had a hard time getting it lined up and straight without it sticking to itself and crumbling up. I just ended up rolling it between my fingers and throwing it in the trash. I was wondering about using low tack transfer tape. Anybody ever try this or have other suggestions? I would really like to give stencils a fair shot.

Not sure I understand what you mean ‘star and bar stencils’
Is that like a dry rub on transfer as opposed to a wet and slide off decal
If you could show us a picture you will get more responses

By star and bar I'm referring to the US insignia on aircraft. I'm talking about spraying stencils made from masking tape material.

Don't know if it translates down the scale from the full size - but I offer it as a possible solution - when using stencils on a real Landrover FFR the usual trick is to tape the stencil in place (or place if self adhesive) then dab the paint on using a sponge or nearly dry brush around the edges then either fill it in using the same technique or by brushing normally.
