Just been reading about weathering effects on aircraft in general and the 'Chipping' effect which can look great is acheived from what I can see with specialist paints or with a special silver pencil.

I have seen Pauls' fabulous Corsair cockpit taking shape and wondered if the pencil method would be as effective not having done either before. Any info on the methods used would be very nice to hear.

If im honest ive never really got on using a pencil for chipping the corsair cockpit was done using a chipping fluid. The best way imo is using a fine pointed brush and a paint the colour of the chip you require.

I learnt to do it watching mig jiminez in various dvds and books, im sure there are you tube videos covering it too

That sounds better than a pencil Paul...will look out for these vids on YouTube then...nice to understand these things. I read your progress with the Birdcage cockpit and how using the Chipping Fluid was not without it's problems in that it was hard to get the paint off where you wanted it so the direct painting idea is a help.

The best way is the hair spray method

do your base coat then spray with hairspray and put on your top colour when done use a toothpick and take of the bits of the top paint that you wish to

REMEMBER to spray it with some sort of varnish at the end/matt varnish or all the paint will peel off

All of them have different effects

I like using a regular crayola silver crayon since it does not have too much of a silver color, and it makes a nice effect that I used on py 1/76 panzer IV
