A/C Cobra 1/24 glue bomb rebuild

So it turns out this is what I have started for 2020...ignore the Ferrari box


It is a $12 ebay find and I couldn’t resist the poor girl. Plan is to build it as a street car like so:


It is pretty rough condition


Cleaned it up with Ultimate airbrush cleaner, RH seat is much nicer now.




Testing some wheels out on the trailer










I have torn everything apart that I can, wiped it all down, stripped all the chrome and have the engine block painted blue, sanded off body seams and filled defects.


This is a big job and there are parts to be found and scratch built

Watch the Barrett - Jackson Action (this week) there are a few of these AC Cobra's there at the action. Even kit cars. On tonight through Sunday. Can you tell what I have been watching at night ROTFL

The correct name for the Blue paint is 'Guardsman Blue' Zero paints have it but you may need to find an alternative over there from Splash/ etc

I have got a lot painted today, mostly in Ultimate black and Tamiya LP paints
Cylinder heads, frame, cockpit underside, Webber carbs, oil pan and transmission. Just went mad with the airbrush
Just letting everything cure up, will get some photos tomorrow in better light.

Ya cool, they can command a fair $
One thing I don’t like about doing glue bombs is that things are not always crisp. The plastic has been mangled, glue deposits warp areas and leave others ‘mucky’. I gotta stop doing these and just build new kits

I can answer this one for you. The "Ford vs Ferrari" movie with Matt Damon, the car is they race for Ford is the Legendary GT-40. Ford won LeMans in 66, 67, 68, 69 with the GT-40 before the car was ban. Scott is building an AC-Cobra. Intreating note that came out last night at the Barrett - Jackson action the guy that designed the AC-Cobra body. for the English company got $5 pre body. Talk about shot end of the stick :

I did the wires symmetrically coming out of the distributor . Not sure what I was thinking, but wanted nice even length leads.
I already had to make two distributors as the first one only got spacing enough for seven holes
So we are getting symmetrical leads, period.

Been following along... I can't believe your taking on a car that was a bit of a "hot mess" already. I do enough to sabotage myself without trying to right someone else's wrong.

Bravo to you for saving this little gem (which I'm sue it will be when your done with it) and giving it a life.

Itching to get going on the paint

At this stage, we go a little crazy and sideways.
I have no kit steering wheel. So I ordered a PE aftermarket one


It comes with a rubber o ring The real wheel is a wooden steering wheel
So I think I will laser cut out some thin veneer wood for a wheel



I don’t have the laser dialled in right and can’t get through. The veneer wood chips like crazy when I cut it. So I glue up two bits in different grain direction and put them on a Dremel ‘lathe’









I also took a copper wire, bent it round and filled soldered the end...the copper wheel is a back up plan



So not a perfect prototype, but with a different wood, this will work

It was probably the thickness of material you were trying to burn through not that you didn't have it adjusted right. 3000mv will cut about a 1mm. I tried to find where you posted your laser cutter when you acquired it and couldn't find it. Mind you I gave up after going back about 20 pages. I thought it was in the goodies bought page. I actually thought yours was a 400mv, but I couldn't confirm it. Any way could you put a bigger laser on it ? When I was having a look around via google I came across a hybrid machine that has a laser and a cnc milling unit. It would seem to offer more possibilities.

have you tried a small fan to blow the smoke away while it's cutting ?
Will it cut styrene cleanly ? .... thinking of Minart and their composite wheels.
