Notwothstanding Ultimate's Apex, where would one start looking at airbrush kits?

Is this one going to be utter crap, and if so, why?

I started off with a set like this but minus the tank on the compresser which I upgraded to about 6months later.. The airbrushes are cheap Chinese copys and there performance can be improved greatly by polishing the needles (look on YouTube for how). The kit as it stands will get you started and used to using an airbrush..

You will need to at some point to upgrade to a branded airbrush of your choice as for the compressor it should give good few years service as long as you drain the main tank regularly and keep an eye on the regulator as I have had one fail.

As an introduction to airbrushing its a good basic set but you have a choice here to buy this and upgrade later to branded items or just buy branded items from the off. Obviously if you go ahead with the branded route you won't be buying twice so to speek.

My current airbrush set up is all Iwata HP-C, s, a micron plus and a tower comressor but whatever brand you decide on have a great time with it and beleave it or not with practice you will get better/improve.

Think of it as a good price for a usable compressor and with some a free disposable airbrush. Since it has the tank the compressor won't surge the air, and as Hawkmoon said, drain and air out the tank from time to time (water will build up inside and it will rust otherwise).
The problem with the chinese airbrushes is large tolerances, soft metal and cheap seals. They will get you through a couple of projects so long as you are careful with which paints and cleaners you use (some will shrink or crack the seals), but on the other hand they are great to learn on because you can always blame the airbrush for your mistakes, once you move upmarket the failures are yours alone.

Personally started off with a Iwata Neo CN, and a 80 dollar compressor off Amazon, still using both and have no complaints really. Just make sure the compressor has an actual storage tank for consistent air PSI and a pressure regulator to tune the PSI to what ever paint your using likes to be sprayed at.

That's the compressor I started with and I still use mine. One word of warning and it might not be applicable for you, but here in the UK plugs have to be individually fused. The compressor came with a 13 amp fuse which was too big. Changed mine to 3 amp and it's good to use.

As for the airbrushes, I echo everyone else's thoughts. Okay as a starter brush, but upgrade as soon as you can.
