Site Update

Post by bfrd »

All,

Due to a potential security flaw, I updated the forum software to the newest version. This is causing many problems with our customizations. Please be patient with me as I sort them out.

As of now, I know of the following issues:
  • Advanced BBCode Editor is not working Fixed, I think
  • Image Integration is not working Fixed for desktops, need to check mobile devices
  • User Flags are not displaying Fixed
  • Options for Thread/Post limits are not working Fixed
  • Breadcrumbs are not displaying Fixed
  • Ads are not displaying Fixed
If you see anything else that is not working, please add it to this list so that I can address it. I apologize for the interruption in service. At this point, I am not sure if it will be faster to fix or revert to backups. My preference would be to fix it. I will be prioritizing the BBCode editor and Image integrations as those directly affect the usability of the site.

Not sure if this is included in the OP list but. I notice now that if I follow a post from the "Recent Topics" sections the blue bar at the top of the screen that starts "Board index now only has a series of chevrons to indicate the levels below the Board Index page.
Before the upgrade the first part of every step was a link that could be clicked on to navigate back up the tree.
Thus if I followed a link to an entry in the Hovering build I could have clicked on the first back step to return to the index of the Hovering build to see other new posts. Now this cannot be done, I have to return to the Board index - Recent posts section and page through to see if there are any other new posts there - or navigate my way down through all the levels.

I hope that makes sense??
    Neil (yet another one...)

    On the board now:

    Airfix 1/35 Alvis Stalwart Mk2 FV622
    Hasegawa 1/48 A8 Crusader

Ok, I have good news, OK news, and not so OK news...

The good news is that I believe I have fixed most of the errors due to the upgrade.

The OK news is that I know what is wrong with the bread crumbs at the top of the forums that aren't appearing.

The not so OK news is that it will not be an easy or quick fix. The backend system for styles is completely changed. Lee and I spent weeks modifying a custom style for this site and it will take quite a bit of time to re-incorporate those changes back into a new style. I do have the new style loaded and am in the process of converting into something that would be seamless to our users. I'll keep everyone updated as I have additional news.

I have no idea what bread crumbs are, but they sound tasty and I'm sure you guys will work it all out.

We're all patient here and appreciate your sterling work.

    Hi Matthew,

No problem while you sort out the teething problems with the update, however I did notice when the upgrade was going on I was getting SQL errors (understandably) but the thing was the error page doesn't have a "contact admin" link to send an email or something. I sent an email to the Ultimate retail site as I didn't know what else to do.

Some sort of contact link would be useful in case someone sees an error and want to notify you.

Apparently we had another small kerfuffle with the site. It seems to be fixed now, but I will try to keep a closer eye on things for the next few days.

Congrats on all the hard work sir. 😊😊
But I think you win't be too happy with me for this. As soon as I leave the home page I get a blue box at the top of the screen that gives this error message:
[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/ext/BFRD/ForumExtension/event/main_listener.php on line 114: Use of undefined constant background_path - assumed 'background_path' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP)

No worries, I saw that one as well. It has to do with the background switching for certain forums. I noted that this morning and will get it sorted soon. I will never turn down a bug report.
