Another Tamiya Ford GT

Post by Mpfiend »

Good evening Gentlemen,

Here is my version of Tamiya's excellent Ford GT kit, it has been completed out of the box and painted with Tamiya lacquer paints, using Pauls mixture of 10ml of LP41 and 6ml of LP45 sprayed over white tamiya primer then clear coated with 8 coats of LP9 clearLP its not quite a 2k finish but it's not too bad after some polishing.

Love it!! Really digging the hints of red throughout (interior, brake calipers...) and the black stripes. I probably would have done white stripes but the black stripes with the black wheels look fantastic.

Very nice build! And to be honest, I sometimes think that the 2k stuff is too shiny... it doesn't look as realistic to me. Looks more like a Bass Boat at Pro Bass or Cabela's. I think your clear is jut right. :thumb1: :thumb1:

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice build, Keith.

That clear coat looks great. I’ll have to try the LP clear. I see they do a semi gloss and a Pearl clear as well. Nice to have a good alternative to 2k, as that’s not the friendliest of substances to be spraying in the house. Did you mix it with the Tamiya Lacquer thinners?

I mixed the LP clear with the Tamiya Lacquer thinners 50/50 for the first 4 coats and then 60/40 thinner to clear for the remaining coats. I left 5-10 mins between coats. It was sprayed using a 0.5mm needle in my airbrush at around 18psi.
I have used the semi gloss clear as well. It’s also very good.
