Hi all,

Wanted to share my latest build with you.

I started with plastic kits as a kid and returned to this hobby after more than 20 years only to find out it is super relaxing; you are keeping both hands and mind busy and at the end you have something tangible. Three years ago, I started with Gunpla (which I still like), switched to cars and bikes. Ever since my re-introduction to plastic kits, I watched tons of videos, read articles, bought tools, thrown them out, bought tons of colours only to find out that are not good, and started following few modellers including Paul and this forum. So, thank you all for the know-how and I hope you will like my latest build.

Honda RC213V in 1/12 scale by Tamiya was the most complicated model kit I ever completed. I used official upgrade parts, super detail kit by Hobby Design and vacuum parts from Decalcals and tons of carbon decals.

Other than that, I like to work with lacquer based paints, on this specific kit: base colour are Tamiya LPs + Gaia Notes, finished with five layers of GX100 Super Clear III, polished by Tamiya Compound and ceramic polishing solution by Hasegawa.

This build was super fun, but hard as hell. My next one is going to be something less complicated for sure.

Was wondering though, you said that you used Tamiya paints, do you mind listing exactly what colors (or Tamiya paint code) you used on the body/wheels?? Thanks!!

Sorry for keep you waiting, barry and massive thanks for the positive words. It means a lot.

Wheels, some body and few engine parts we painted by Gaia Notes colors. Wheels specifically with Pure Orange Gloss - 015 over white base coat. Tried to mix the fluorescent orange with LPs, but without luck. As for the body, I used Ex-White 01 Gloss by Gaia Notes, the best white in my opinion.

All the rest colors are LPs by Tamiya, Italian Red LP21 and the Repsol Orange is LP-8 Pure Yellow with few drops of Italian Red. Dont have specific percentage, I was adding more drops of red into yellow and constantly comparing it to the box art.

I have this kit and the paint and the hoo haas and goo gaas detail stuff for it, but am way too chicken to start her out

I'm looking into building this but was wondering about the detail-up kits. I see there is the one that just does the front fork set, as listed on Tamiya's website. However, I have also found a far more expensive and detailed set from Top Studio.

Have you got any advice as to which one to go for?

The GX100 III by Gunze (Mr. Hobby) is excelent varnish and it cures well, so after its dry you can polish it more to bring up the shine.

Hi Ryan, Tamiya offers only the front fork set as a detail up kit for this bike. I went with Mr.Hobby detail up after market kit since the ones from Top Studio werent available in my shop. The most expensive is the Super Detail Up kit, it has resin and photo-etched parts, weirdly doesnt come with a chain. This kit I would recommend only if you already have had an experience with super small parts and glueing photo-etched parts (magnifying glass is a must). It really depends on your budget, most of the parts in Super Detail and Detail Up (which is less expensive) kit are available separately as well.

The kit I used doesnt have cables as those from Top Studio, but comes with a chain (around 150 parts including gears after assembly). If I would have to choose again, I would go with kit from Top Studio and put extra money on chain as well.

If you have never worked with after market detail up kits, your patience will be tested super hard.

Bikes have always been my end goal as I acknowledge the difficulty of them compared to cars. I will be completing more builds before getting started on this, but wanted to plan ahead as shipping can take a long time to get to NZ and noone here stocks detail up parts. Hoping to have it sitting in the pile until I deem myself ready.

Luckily I pride myself as being quite a patient person, in fact I quite enjoy long projects, so looking forward to the day I can get started on this. Cheers

Always wanted to build a car from the legendary B-group. I was eye-balling both Lancia Delta and Audi Quattro S1, they both look amazing. Are you planning to start WIP thread for your Lancia build?

I think I will start a build thread when I get started which I'm expecting to be in the next few weeks. It arrived last week and really looks to be a beautiful kit, especially in comparison to the Revell kit that arrived at the same time - even the instructions are lovely.

I think its going to be a long wait for the detail up kit so I think I will start with the laborious aspects. So far I've only uploaded finished projects but I think there's enough stuff in this kit to be able to add to a thread as I go - I'm thinking it's going to be a real slow burner
