So, my first proper build and my first non intro thread!

I'm learning daily and upping my skills, so apologies for the not so great techniques and finishes!

I started this before some things were delivered, and with only enamel paint and an airbrush in a can, so some of the paint isn't great, but the frame turned out lovely!

I'm going for the 20th anniversary colours, to match the original R1 sitting in my garage.

Here's the kit!

Got some upgrade parts and Blue Stuff 20th anniversary decals.






I started with the engine, frame and wheels.




I then drilled all the holes in each disc, and ABS sensor rings, only realise I didn't need them with the Top Studio upgrade set!





Clutch actuator that came with the photoetch bits from Top Studio. (Ignore the finish on the engine, in planning on fixing that!)




I'll update further in the morning, but I'm loving it so far!

Here's the finish on the frame and swing arm.



Next, the fork kit was delivered, so I made a start on that.



Just seeing the difference between it and the kit part shows how worth it the fork set is.



Done a few other bits, here's the rad with the photoetch




I then assembled the swing arm, and the rear shock, and painted the chain.





I painted the handlebars, then chopped off the bar ends and added the aluminium set from the Top Studio upgrade set. I'm surprised how well the drilling went!



Left it the new part, right is standard.



Then the fairings were cleaned up. I removed the mould lines and moulded in rivets and drilled them for my top studio parts to go in. Then I got them all primed with Tamiya L white primer.




And a little close up of the rear section.



And that's where I'm at this morning!

Got a few bits done!

Some small photo etch parts. First is a pad retailer spring for the front caliper, and sec on is a tinny clip that holds the front break reservoir lid closed.



Got the paddock stand bits in photo etch, too. They are riveted in, so was bloody fiddly!


My first ever attempt at carbon fiber decals went okay, too!


Got the calipers painted ready for photo etch bits.


Can just about see the pearl on the tank, too.

Thanks for the kind words, lockdown is taking it's toll on me, still working from home in customer service for the travel sector so the abuse and 7uncertainty daily is getting to me.

Pouring time into this is helping and so are the comments of encouragement, so thank you again!

Little update. Decals done!



Also painted lots of little things black, almost ready to put it together. I have some 1mm silicone hose, that I sucked up some acrylic paint in to make it look like black with a clear sheath for braided lines, but the acrylic isn't drying. Has anyone got any tips for that?

Some fiddly details done!


A bit of a CA glue issue on the front caliper, any tips to remove it without effecting the paint on the caliper? It's just a blob on the PE part.



Started the exhaust weathering, too.

Some more detail parts. I think I dived in at the deep end with this as my first proper project. My lack of skill begins to show with the tiny details. I'm not gonna let it get my down, I'm no just going to soldier on and when im better, do another one and look back and laugh!

Still having fun though!

The reservoir and the metal details are from the top studio kit. Some some carbon fiber decals, too.



The clutch cable, coolant overflow, brake line bracket and hose clamps, again came with the Top Studio upgrade set.

Just a few tiny details left such as rivets in the fairings and such, and a bit CA glue clean up, then I'm done!

I feel your pain about work. At least you can still earn money however I'm a pilot and out of work. Worst career in the world for this Corona Virus BS.

Awesome job! How hard was it compared to a car?

Yeah, the industry is taking a big hit. The company I work for has come under media fire quite a bit, too, due to some misinformation and personal vendettas so I get the brunt of it on my social media and when im working on social media, too!

Thanks, I struggled with a few bits! For the most part, the kit parts fit like a glove, most of my issues came from the details set like when it came to drilling and cutting kit parts. So I say just go for it!

I don't generally build bikes, but this is making me want to build one... what a fantastic build from beginning to end. Looks amazing in the paint too. Great work.
