I wanted to build the ship my grandad was on but i cant find a ship that i can use i know it would need a lot of work to pull off but as my grandad has passed now its something i would love to have sitting next to some photos of him.
The images of the ship my grandad was on the HMS Albion R07 1962 to 1964 Commission. I wonder with all them men standing there my grandad could be there.
If anybody can think of a ship i can use you would make me a very happy man indeed
R.i.p Grandad i am going to make a model of this in your honor

As far as I am aware HMS Albion shares the same hull and Island as HMS Hermes as they where designed and started as the same class of ship. If you could get a kit of Hermes (I'm sure there are some although they may be resin) all you would need to do in terms of major work is remove and sand off the angled deck to streamline with the hull edge.

There is a resin kit of HMS Hermes as she was during the Falklands War available in 1/700 scale but its not cheap! Link to a supplier here;
https://www.whiteensignmodels.com/p/Ora ... lmGGRAUY_c. You may be able to find it cheaper in far east eshops but it a fairly new release I think.
A review of the kit can be found here;

In general shape yes, size probably not - I will do some research for you and check, however that is a far more modern ship.
How accurate do you want to be, is this a replica or a representation? If the second is the answer with more work that ship could work. Although you would run the risk of it looking like an adapted American carrier.
Those Hobby Boss carriers are nice kits.

I am looking for something that kinda looks like it. I dont mind if its not like for like. Just in the ball park. Thats why i thought that one as its not to far off of what i can see in the image i have. But if you can find something more in the ball park i would be very happy

I will take some pictures of my Hobby-Boss carrier - which is the same as the one you found, just a different name, and place images of Albion over them to see how feasible it would be

No probs, if you need any more information just ask as researching ships is one of my other hobbies and a part of my job

Out of curiosity did your Grandad serve on Albion when she was a traditional carrier 1947-55, assault carrier 1955-56 or resupply carrier 1957-decommission?

I have just seen a forum thread where a modeller has converted to the Hermes from the Airfix HMS Victorious as they have very similar hull shapes and displacements.

I am sure if you contact either the R.N. or M.O.D. they will be happy to provide pictures of the Albion, or here is a link for Google's search
