Howdy, y'all!

Greetings from The Four Corners, USA, specifically Cortez, Colorado. I am yet another prodigal modeler, having returned to the hobby a couple years ago after a brief forty year hiatus. I'm a 60 year old ex-army, ex-archaeologist, currently employed as a live-in caregiver next to a hay farm, and almost literally surrounded by the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation. (It's nice out here in the country.) Needless to say, the nearest model hobby shops are hundreds of miles away, so all my shopping and modeling interactions are online.

My interests include 1/35 military subjects and 1/25 American cars. I have a growing stash of Jeep kits, although so far I have only built the Mount'n Goat. Jeeps are kind of my thing, as I have owned four IRL. I like other stuff, too. I just picked up an Academy 1/48 P40 to learn on. (I had a student pilot certificate and owned and solo'd a Piper taildragger back in the 80's. Life interrupted before I got my licence.) I want to do a Corsair, Mustang, military Piper (L-4?), etc... eventually, but planes are hard. Also need to do a Star Trek Enterprise, because I was a kid in the '60's. Nuff said.

Found the forum through Paul's outstanding videos on YouTube and the FB group. Glad to be here, and hope to learn and share!

Thanks! Not sure how to reply to individual posts here. Somebody school me! As for the loons, those are a native bird in my home state. I know them well. (Beautiful call on an early morning lake, too!)

As for Jeeps, hell ya !
I think a Meng has put out some really good late model suv/trucks that might be right up your alley and those kits are far better engineered than AMT, Revell or Monogram

I just revived my photobucket account, because all my best pics are there, but I'm not paying them to share my own photos right now. Will look into flickr later. I like the Meng Jeep, but not the price. Also, not a huge fan of static displays - same with the new Revell Jeeps. Need a motor! And a transfer case!

Welcome from Florida bluedigger! I love Flickr.. not sure you can post your pics directly from Amazon so they just show up in the thread but Flickr is the easiest I have used and it is totally free. I think there is a thread here on how to set it up to work with this forum so it is easier to use but I do it the old fashioned way.

I couldn't agree more yet it is still hard to part with the cash at times when the subject is so way out there price wise.

Im with Scott these days I would rather pay for quality than having to put a cheap kit to rights so its barely buildable. I just do not give the time of day to some kits out there these days.

There are some absolute price gougers out there - Dragon for one, but there are some new manufacturers that are releasing new kits at decent prices. RFM and Meng are well priced. Airfix new tools are pretty reasonable and go down in price after a while.

I will never spend £70 on a kit in 1/35 the size of a Panzer IV when another decent manufacturer is releasing a similar model for £40. Check out Border Models new Pz4 releases, link and length tracks with built in sag, all around £40. I've seen a full video build of one and its an absolute belter.

I've just started work on a RFM 1/35 M1A1 Abrams which cost me £38. It looks a beauty (its also huge) and their product line is full of subjects I like. I'm hoping the Abrams goes together well as its my first RFM kit. If its a winner there will be more RFM in my future. For example they've just released a Sherman Firefly for under £40, they are releasing one soon with a full interior which will cost less than some similar sized kits with NO interior.

Good to know about the alternative up and coming companies and I shall be keeping a eye out for them. I do have a RFM Panther stashed away, but the new panzer iv has caught my interest as well.
I don't know if it only just here, but it seems everything kit wise has just lifted in price a lot in the last 3 months mind you I am pretty sure my food bill has gone up about 25% too.

So, I think I figured out the photo thing. Per requests, a couple shots of my Mount'n Goat, in Vallejo light red over gray primer, with scratch bumpers and side rails. Also put a body lift on for wheel clearance. Now that you can evaluate my skills
(and I use that term loosely) I expect I'll be shown the door.

You're too kind. Major construction mistakes were made (no front driveshaft) and the cat knocked the radiator on the floor, where the dog chewed it, while I was out of town. Looks good on the shelf.
