Pitboard

Post by BettyBloo »

So I have come up with an idea of using 1/12 pitboards to display alongside the relevant MotoGP bikes. I have seen them on eBay, and I think minchamps do them, but wondered if anyone had any ideas about getting blank ones to then add appropriate decals and create my own.
I cannot find blanks for sale, in surprisingly, and thought about cutting my own form a sheet, but wondered if anyone had any ideas.
Would be an awesome project.
I don’t know if a 3D printer would perhaps do this, but for the sake of 20 that’s a big outlay.

Grateful for ideas

It is a good idea
Can you pop up a link so I can see what is available and what could use to make them

This is what I have found. Can easily print some decals to fit, but sourcing the blanks an issue.

Well my first three thoughts are:

1.Laser cut out the forms from a thin plywood or acrylic with a laser etcher
OR
2. 3D print them out
OR
3.some sheet styrene with the handles drilled out and sanded to the rounder profiles??

Need a good source for decals, boy they really detailed those things up

After looking at the link you provided, they look like "foam" poster board. Would be simple enough, with a sharp exacto blade, to make some yourself. As far as the 'decal' - my wife has a cricut cutter/printer that you could make what ever decal you want. Like this...

As long as you can find the image, you can print it and it will cut it out. Does all kinds of stuff, from tiny stickers to t-shirt iron-ons. You may just need to find someone that has one. Ask any women you know that do craft stuff. :thumb2:

Cool Barry! Do you know if the cricut can make tire stencils for painting tires? Like Goodyear, etc.

I don't use the thing... but pretty sure it could. As long as you can find the image, or pattern, pretty sure it can cut it out. I know you can do words on an arc and whatnot - may be down to finding the right font and Mercury's shoe. :D

I'm going to have to ask some of the ladies I know who have them if they can do it. I can't find 1:24 stencils to save my life... I love the look of painted on logo

Thats a cool printer Barry, I never knew anything like that existed haha
I reckon a sheet of styrene and decals printed on that printer thingy would be pretty simple but really awesome!
