Hello modelers, I am new to this forum and I wanted to show you to start my new job with this 1/16 scale trumpeter model.

That's a biggy has a lot of wow going for it....

Whats the plastic like ? Is it the same as the smaller kits or a harder type as the plastic is much thicker and Trumpeter would have to over come the sink hole phenomenon with thicker parts.
Not having the pleasure of building these grand scale kits I'm curious. I look forward to the rest of the build....

I think the plastic is the same only thicker.

A small preview with the brake discs, the before and after working a bit with them:

That is one hell of a size beast! Is it meant for remote control or purely a static display?? Looking forwards to seeing how this build progresses as at 1/16th the detail must be incredible to start with - let alone what you are obviously adding to it.

Those brake disc's are before and after shots and you had to shave the outside edge to expose the vent holes ?

I had to sand until the two halves of the disc were at the same height and leave it very smooth before making the holes.

A couple of us have got the late version of this beast so watching this is like a road map of how to do it

Lately 1/35 models of the Panther have come onto the market in great detail like those of Takom and RFM. The Trumpeter Panther doesn't have as much detail when it would be easier to add them down the scale.

But for that reason I like Trumpeter's, because I can detail it more or less correctly.

The other models are to glue pieces and paint, with all due respect. Trumpeter's Panther requires painstaking work, which is what I like.

I have mounted one of the shock absorbers to serve as a guide for the following.

I am hankering to build a 1/16 Scale but the prices is a bit off putting.

Likewise tempted - but I fear my problem is a tad more basic!
I had the 1/72 Mil Mi-V-12 out of its box the other day to get a feel for overall size - the wife took one look and said "Where the hell do you think you are putting that thing?".
So I would expect her reaction to something the size of this beautiful Panther to be ear-drum shattering....

That is super cool!

When you think about it its not that big. It’s just twice as long and wide as a normal 1/35 tank. It’s not like an aircraft where the wingspan is the killer in terms of where to put it.

Yes, these 1/16 scale models are somewhat expensive. I saved for a few months to be able to buy it. If you propose it you can do the same and at Christmas you can treat yourself, cheer up !!!

Yes, I know what you mean. When my wife saw the size of the box, she looked at me like the cow that looks at the train ... and I told her that there was no problem of space since it fits in a glass showcase that I bought second-hand from my video club that closed for not being able to compete with digital movie platforms.

As the showcase has several floors, it would also fit the King Tiger 1/16 that may fall on my nets later ... how nice it is to daydream !!!!

I have in the box the SBD Dauntless 1/16 of Merit, and that one, when finished, only fits on the double bed ...

I have received the Commander of the tank, it is from a Panzer IV but I will try to adapt it to my Panther.




Meanwhile I have mounted another shock absorber.

Well, I have finished sanding and deburring all the shafts being very careful to place them where they touch as they are not all the same. The axles are fitted very tightly in their hole and I think they should be that way since if they rotated freely in the hole they would sink with the weight of the model itself and the belly of the barge would end up touching the ground.

I did not place them definitively since I have to remove them to place the grease lines of the axle bearings and they bother me for it.





And a detail of the welding lines that I am adding little by little.

How are you adding the weld lines....epoxy ?

I use two-component two-color putty that you have to mix and knead. To handle this putty you have to wet your fingers with water as well as the utensils you use since it sticks a lot.

As a utensil I have used a toothpick.

After several days busy painting with the broad brush I was able to do something on the Panther.

I have started to reproduce the grease lines of the axle bearings and I realized that before I had to mount the firewall:

Wow! This is going to be an amazing build. So much detail.
