Global Scale Modeller

Hi y'all,

After finishing my first project I already started to stretch the fingers for the next one. I'm an huge fan of Ferrari. In particular, the F430 Scuderia is my dream car. So it had to be this one to start with.



My intention is to build up an entire Ferrari collection. I've meanwhile purchased about 20 Kits and will basically collect them. Not sure how, and if I will ever build them but for now I believe into "owning is better than seeking".

I purchased an upgrade kit for it already but than the set back started:



I used the spray can primer which totally fck up. I was outside with it and my neighbor started talking to me. Instead of dumping it at that point and scrape everything of I continued and its still giving me headache.



I fell like I'm getting slowly on top of it but it will never be perfect.



I've decided now to move on and wait with upgrade kit and stuff for the next one. I'm about to purchase the same model again and will come back on a point where I feel like I can handle this with my dream car.



So for now, this is going to be a standard built to develop my skills. I'm using Tamiyas italian red which pops awesome. Instructions say for underbody and interiour, to mix metal and dark gray for replicate carbon look. Anybody a better idea? I'll post from now on continuously progress and questions

You can get carbon fiber decals...the ones from Scale Motorsport are great.
Ya for priming and painting you gotta pay attention.
You can get away with Tamiya spray cans, just have to be careful as you have limited control over volume and overspray
I resisted going to an airbrush, but now would never go back. Actually decant the Tamiya spray cans to use in the airbrush.

Thats what I will do from now on as well. The grey primer from the can worked out great! The pink for whatever reason was a nightmare.

Check out Alex's site. He used to write for magazines and has some of his old articles published under publications. He is big into Ferraris too.

as you can see, rear and diffusor are actually different. It looks like plastik but it is not. Its UD carbon composite. Not the piece between the light, everything underneath. I believe semi gloss black is the way to go already. just wanted to hear if someone already has spend time with this topic...

definitely better and I'll keep pushing. Wont strip it down and ill try tomorrow with less thinner.
I meanwhile work on the other parts so no drama. Also, I ordered 2 more kits of the Scud so the next once will be better. I just use this for now to practice.





This on the other hand came out so much nicer!! I use tamiya semigloss 40:60 and did 2 rounds of spray. Much better than my previous built. I guess it totally helps that the parts are black already before. The finish is just awesome. Definitely helps to keep my mojo up.

next is the underbody in carbon 'alike'. I found AK xtreme metal 'metalic smoke' in my tray and believe that might be a good idea to use that for carbon. I'll give it a shot and see how it will turn out.

Meanwhile, the wheels are plastic chrome, what is the best way to strip that off? Or can I simply overspray? I have gunmetal ZeroGrafiti waiting here.

Little update here.
I've basically ruined the kit at the finish line. I had done two things totally wrong:.
1 instead of using decal solution I used decal remover. Since both bottles look identical to me I only realized this way too late.

2 was that in the middle of clear coating with gravity 2k the model fell out of the holder and landed on the blue paper towel. Done. I try to safe what I could but it is just bad.

Unfortunately I can't upload pictures here with my phone due to the size. I'll do that later.
I call it a day here and will continue when I start building the second kit. I meanwhile have 3 of them to be on the safe side.

After pushing the reset button things worked out better than before

I used Tamiya clear and put the decals on. Stupid me, I used decal remover instead of decal layer. Since both bottles look identical somewhat I basically destroyed some of the decals.







I used tamiya italian red which is really really nice!








I used gravity colors 2k clear coat, as already mentioned above I had HUGE problems with it!
This stuff is basically too aggressive to use in my environment. I do have a little spray cabin and a mask but the fumes are just too much. I was pretty dissy which at the end also cost me the build. I basically dropped the thing on the blue paper which ruined everything in the end...
anyway, it is what is. I was so pissed and ordered the same kit 2 more times. I swear, I will keep building this kit until perfection...

I went on to the 430 Challenge as my next build which worked out much better

I tried a technique where I mixed about 9:1 semi gloss black and aluminium. Then I always brushed in the same direction to give a slight carbon effect. I used it on parts of the Revell F50 engine bay.


I use spray cans as small house and small childreb make airbrush use difficult.
