Honda RC213V #93 - 1/12 Tamiya complete!

Post by LWWales »

Well, she's finally finished! 4th model down since picking up the hobby in April. There was so much in the Top Studio detail set, I got a little overwhelmed at one point with the wiring and had to take a day or two off.

Came back with full enthusiasm and got over the line!

The fairings, wheels and frame were painted using the Zero Paints Repsol colours. I had issues with the paint on the wheels, and it destroyed the rear. I bought a new kit and carefully repainted.

Next time I'll try Gravity Spain or Splash.

I used the Top Studio super detail set and the Chain set, too.

The rest of the paint was Tamiya LPs. About half way through I started using an Apex airbrush and my.God what an improvement over the Chinese airbrush I was using!

Anyway, photos! If you spot anything I can do better, or anything I've missed, please tell me! :)

And one using perspective to see the fairings on the bike!

Hello chap

I would not know one end of a bike to another, so huge credit to you for 4th Model.
I actually thought it was images of the real thing.
Amazing job,: : : : : : :

Looks like you could just fire it up and ride it off! Awesome.

PS I agree with diddy about your next build!

Great work on this!
I love the job you did on the electrical and all the piping, that's what really makes these models shine in my opinion. I also like the work you did on the exhaust, this is a truly impressive build.
I have also been wanting to do a Tamiya Mp4/6 with the Top Studio Super Detail Kit, it seemed like a logical next step prior to moving up to the 1/12 Model Factory Hiro multimedia kits (Which is my ultimate dream/goal)
Great work and I look forward to seeing your future builds! Very motivating

Thanks guys! I would try and ride it but I'm getting a little tubby since lockdown

I reeeally want to dive straight in to the MP4/4, have done since I bought it, but I'm also looking forward to the VFR  I'm in two minds, I think it would be good for Mojo changing it up, buuut I did get a little down on mojo during this bike up. There's not really any wiring with the VFR since it's the Hobby Design upgrade set, so I'm currently undecided

Thank you and I agree, it's the little things. That's not to say you can make it look great out of the box though, a lot of the guys on here prove that and @Gary30s RC213v he's doing currently is a testament to that!

Same here a MFH kit is the dream, but I wanna stick with styrene until I'm confident I can do the price tag justice!

Alright, we all know those are photos of the real bike, now show us the pictures of your model....

Just kidding... real nice clean build, especially with that level of detail. As you have probably figured out, the more you add the more chance of issues, but this is a very nice build regardless if it is your 10th or 100th model.

Quick follow up question for you. What did you use for those electrical connectors at the front of the bike? Is that the Top Studio set? I've got that and on my current build have been struggling to get that shrink tube to look right.

It is indeed from the Top Studio set. I didn't use shrink tube for it, I just drilled the ends of the connectors with a 0.3mm drill bit, then stripped the very end of the wire, they slot in and hold well by dipping the stripped wire in some CA gel and popping it in the hole :)

You may get some frosting from the superglue, but that can be tidied up with a detail brush and some Tamiya rubber black (LP-65, I think) Hope it helps!

Use the BSI gold CA glue Luke. You'll have no further problems with frosting. You can use it on clear parts too :D.

Thanks for the tip mate! I'll get some.
I'm using Rocket gel at the moment and it's brilliant apart from a little frosting now and then
