Greetings from East Coast, USA

Greetings, all!

My screen name “Whiterook” owes to Vic Morrow’s, Sgt. Saunders, of the TV show, COMBAT! I chose it back in 2007 when I joined a history forum, and my first forum ever. It was rather a good sign and portents kinda thing at that forum, where there was a modeling section included and where I rejoined the hobby as a happy coincidence. Before that, I’d built model kits as a kid in the 1960-70’s, but it wasn’t until 2007 that I’d come to see that what I slapped together as a youngster, is now every bit works of art by modelers, today. I was amazed, to be frank. I was urged to join a Group Build and was hooked. A side thread to this was, I’d gone to college for an Art degree, only to end up working outside of the arts; but I’d then come to use the model building hobby as a vehicle to get back in touch with my love of creating and painting.

I mostly build WWII armor and vehicles, but also love Naval, air and space/scifi....and well, it’s all fair game, really! 1/35 is my usual preference. Modeling is where I also learned to airbrush. As a model builder/painter, I’m not a beginner, but I’m not advanced, either....I’m somewhere in-between.

I stopped building several years ago (between 3-5?), when work became totally overbearing, including some life challenges. But I’d had the pilot light burning continuously, and now, the furnace has re-started! I finished reclaiming my old workbench (finished just this weekend!) and everything is set to go for launch. As part of where I stand, here at the precipice of putting a kit on the bench, I needed a community to find inspiration and support from. All the ones I’d been part of in the past had dried up and I was feeling cast adrift. I’d been a moderator at a couple of those, and enjoyed my time there. Those that survived had changed quite a bit...a lot of the old guard, gone. And so, I went in search today for a new home, and found ISM today. I’m very excited to be here!

As an incidental, I own a small wargaming forum myself, with a very small modeling section too. I am mostly a board wargamer, but I am a miniatures gamer as well, and find many similarities to model kit building in this very-much larger size (the minis are anywhere from 6 to 15, and even 28mm). In many ways, I think these are allied hobbies.

So anyway, that’s me! I look forward to learning from you all, making new friends, and contributing as much as I can. Thanks for taking me aboard!

My real name is Emery, but my friends (that now includes you all!) call me, Em.

Hi Em,

I'm new here too. A real freindly place. I'm also new to the military modelling scene so I look forward to seeing your projects both new and old and picking up some tips.

Welcome aboard.

Toto
