  Well here we go with my penny worth for the late WWII builds sig info care or Wiki:-

The M26 Pershing was a heavy tank/medium tank[1] of the United States Army. The tank was named after General of the Armies John J. Pershing, who led the American Expeditionary Force in Europe in World War I. It was used in the last months of World War II during the Invasion of Germany and extensively during the Korean War.

The M26 was intended as a replacement of the M4 Sherman,[citation needed] but a prolonged development period meant that only a small number saw combat in Europe, notably in the 9th Armored Division's dash to take the Ludendorff Bridge during the Battle of Remagen. Based on the criteria of firepower, mobility, and protection, American historian R. P. Hunnicutt ranked the Pershing behind the German Panther medium tank, but ahead of the Tiger I heavy tank.[2] In service during the Korean War, the M26 had equivalent armour protection to the T-34-85,[3] but struggled in the hilly and muddy terrain. It was withdrawn in 1951 in favor of its improved derivative, the M46 Patton, which had a more powerful and reliable engine and advanced suspension better able to handle the terrain.[4] The lineage of the M26 continued with the M47 Patton, and was reflected in the new designs of the later M48 Patton and M60 Patton.

I have just upgraded the gun to metal for this build the rest is straight out of the box.

I might throw in the A39 Tortoise as well as both were in action at the end of WWII.

  The build starts with the bottom tub and adding the suspension ect.

This is one of Tamiyas new tool/parts boxing and has a new assembly process that I have not seen before when you look closely most of the central working suspension is held in place by the use of poly caps and not the usual torsion bar glued to the other side of the tank. At either end the use of more poly caps but now enhanced with pre bent spring wire screws and washers to fit the parts Together.

Screws are also used to hold the suspension assemble together on the outside as well. Everything fits nicely for different form of assembly.

Interesting new construction method on the suspension as you said. I wonder if over time the split ends of the arms where the spring inserts will spread. I guess depends on how much spring power there is. Looks good though.

:cheers2: Thanks for looking in and your comments chaps. They also provide the two nuts and bolts to affix it to a dio if needed so a pretty comprehensive set up from Tamiya. Where the cut outs for the wire traps are the plastic is quite sturdy and once in place theres no budging them apart from there set travel distance. Still its easy to set up and assemble its just the riggors of time to await now to see if they fail. :eeek: :eeek: :eeek: :cheers2: :cheers2:

  Wheels made up with the polycaps so there easy to take off for painting and the hull roof has been glued in place. Various lights, fittings and storage boxes have been added. Turret halves have been glued together ready for more fittings.

  Most of the equipment has been added to the turret along with the after market metal barrel and brass turned muzzle brake. As you can see its a serious piece of work with a good length on it, the plastic kit one is fine but I thought it needed the metal one. Also note the counter weight added to the rear of the turret. Next up is paint.

  All the tank parts were sprayed with grey under coat and when dry everything was given a coat of Khaki drab base. The turret and hull next had khaki drab highlights added.

Looking good - as others have said that is one hell of a gun barrel !!
Kind of amusing seeing the hull atop the support for paint with all the suspension legs/axles hanging down - looks vaguely insectoid!! :) :)

Wow that's come together really quickly and I'm still dithering over what to pick from the stash!

Interesting to see the additional metal work from Tamiya - and that barrel really is a whopper!

The paintwork is looking very smooth as well - really nice work :cheers2:

  More done with all the rubber bits painted on the wheels which were then attached to the hull via the poly grips. The rubber tracks were glued together using Tamiya extra thin the joints being held together by bulldog clips on either side of each track.

Once the glue was dry the tracks were given a liberal coating of Ultimate black primer followed when dry with Tamiya LP steel. The tracks were mounted on the running gear when dry this enabled the two side skirts to to be fitted in place. The hull is now ready for mud fest :jd: :eeek: :eeek:

I think the super Pershing was an answer to the King Tigers having the capacity to take out the kings before they could fire back. Only one went to Europe before hostilitys ended but it did what it was asked to do. In all only 25 had the big gun fitted most just having the standardized tank gun it was designed to have.

Lovely paint job on the hull. Nice and subtle.

Do you reckon the gun is big enough? I think the designer might have had some 'issues'...

Lovely build

There's some great pictures of Pershing's in exchanges with Panthers and the odd Tiger, Stug or anti tank gun in the last weeks of he war. It was a beast of a tank when it's compared to something like a Cromwell or Panzer 4
