Panther G Academy 1/35

Post by 8adc0mpany »

Hi folks,

I thought about giving this Academy kit a go. I only picked it up today so i'll treat this as an introductory post before i sit down and think about what to do with it.

Given this is also my first post to ISM i'll introduce myself and say g'day to everyone and thanks for having me on board.

Panther G Academy 1/35

Post by 8adc0mpany »

Apologies for the late reply, things have been a little busy around here lately.
Firstly thanks everyone for the reply's and welcomes. Much appreciated. I also wanted to admit upfront that I am by no means an expert at any of this, I have been casually modelling for a few years now but I don't take it too seriously, in saying that you will find errors in construction and the wrong parts fitted according to historical photographs or documentation but hey, it's all about having fun right. While I do take an interest in the history and carrying out the research I just can't seem to translate that level of accuracy into a kit, so I usually just go with what's in the box and closest colour wins for painting.
So here's what's been done so far...

It's been really enjoyable so far, I cannot find any reason to complain at all. I came into this knowing what Academy does and does not do well but jeez this one is alright. Super simple instructions and fit is just awesome. Can't comment on accuracy really but I hear it's not bad. So major construction has now been mostly completed. Bit of cleaning up to do then start on the turret.

I have narrowed down the scheme to this one I think

Nice. The Camo will be tricky with all those sharp bends in the outline.
Looking forward to seeing more.

Okay, it's become difficult to find time at the moment but push on I will. I have a few more photo updates for everyone. Thanks again for the welcomes and kind words.

I tried out the new AK grey primer and it was very nice. It was a little thick out of the bottle so I cut it with a little demineralised water and it sprayed much better. Then a base coat of Green.

I really wanted to have a go freehand with the airbrush for the camo pattern and that's about as close as I could get to the reference.

Then disaster struck... I completely ruined the turret due to reasons haha so I stripped it back. I have always wanted to try out a red primer scheme so I thought why not. It's a good practise run.
10.jpg
I have also started on the weathering using MIG pigments, mud effects and some Vallejo crushed grass. It's going on pretty heavy but I'll try and tone it down going foreword

I think the turret was a good disaster. It gives it a different look. Nice job with the air brush also. It's all coming along nicely!

I like the turret :th: and the mud/grass mix isn't too heavy at all. Real life can be even thicker and heavier than that.

That's a beautiful rescue. The turret and gun look superb.

A good representation of what the Germans were doing when their paint supplies started to hit

That's a superb paint job - great work

Did you use the AK paints that are lurking in the background of one of the shots?

Thank you,
I did use the Yellow and brown for the lower hull from the AK late war german set. The green I wanted something a little darker so went with Vallejo NATO green and toned it down with a little light green.
The turret is a mix of MIG rotbraun primer set and Vallejo red brown

I’ll give a more detailed post on the paints used if you like
