Tamiya 1/12 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP Black edition

Post by Gavlaaar »

Image
With the Mercedes put to one side and the mojo depleted, I've decided to start on the Fireblade.
I'll be doing the Black edition, which is a mix of gloss black and matt metallic black.
I already feel the mojo returning even just after starting assembling the engine.

1 PE bolt head down, 22 to go. Why do I do this to myself?

Bolt heads on the engine completed. They really make a difference compared to just touching the parts with silver paint. :D

Nice! Tha black is the scheme I would do if I ever build this, looks a lot more aggressive than the box art :pistols:

I read....'getting my mojo back'.... then saw the PE bolt head set and thought to myself, is this guy for real?!

That's the exact same reason for me doing the black.

The mojo is well and truly back, even just starting a bike sorted it out. But i never make it easy for myself

Ohhhhh yes! I was gonna do the black scheme as I gave Paul my decals after he had issues with his, but I have a spare sheet of repsol decals from the RV213V, so I may do a repsol version!

Love them. Consistent size into the chuck, no f’ing around tightening for small diameters
BUT...
They also snap off like a mofo with minimal lateral pressures...even the bigger ones
And for God’s sakes don’t drop the entire pack, They. Will. All. Break...uhh I heard that from a someone who did it

And don't I just know that now. I looked at the 0.4mm bit the wrong way and it snapped

I'll be a lot more careful with the larger sizes now.

More 0.4mm ordered as thats the one I need most.

Bodywork clear coat complete.

Really like the contrast of the finishes on the tank.

Completely forgot to matt coat the bike frame though, so will be doing that over the weekend.

I'm an absolute idiot :wall:
How could I forget to apply the decals to the bike?
There are a couple small ones which needed to be under the gloss coat, these can no longer be added.
Luckily the main ones go on the matt parts, so I've given them a quick spray of TS-13. When this is dry ill put them on then matt coat them. Just hoping I have enough of my Gravity Color matt additive left.

Looking good :th: Never mind about the decals it's easily done you get so involved with the paint and clear coat you forget about those small decals. I did something similar with my last plane build, in that I assembled and painted the wings before drilling the underwing pylons holes. The shining the torch trick wouldn't work due to the paint, so no underwing load

Don't let this small oversight, deter you from what looks like being a superb build :th: :cheers2:

Not been able to do much modelling recently due to a neck injury.
That now seems to be on the mend and I've got something done. The front forks have been painted, albeit a little touch up on the matt black needed.
The gloss black didn't come out fantastic so buffed up the paint with some compound and thats done the trick. I don't need to worry about where the paint has come off as that will be covered.

I don't know if anyone else does this, but after sanding off the mold line from the tyre, they always tend to look grey.
Image
So, I always spray on a bit off matt black and the results always look good. The scuff marks from the sanders make them look slightly used too.
Image
Dies anyone on here do this?

Oh nice, I'll keep an eye out for that one. Rumours are the masking/paint/decal scheme on that bike is a bit of a bugger.

Yeah, the decals are supposed to be fragile. I think I'll end up masking and painting the colours instead, though. Maybe I'll try the decals, though the blue needs to be painted anyway
