Bobby Rahal’s Budweiser Lola Road Course version.

Post by Shunter »

Something I’ve been playing with. The AMT Lola 88 which I’m going to use the Shapeways road course wing set on.

My first time trying Tamiya pink primer, let’s see if the Italian red will jump out more on this than my normal white.
This was a rare sunny period during a very wet weekend.

Very cool! I've never built an Indy car.

My brother did his school work experience with Lola in Huntingdon. I don't think they exist anymore.. 😔

Managed to get the Tamiya LP paint on, it went down OK but I didn’t get the usual sheen due to the cool temps still, but it’s down and decals can happen soon.

Thank you gents for the wonderful comments. So I started with the decals, these are Indycals from Michael and as usual are going on very nicely. The white really stands out as they dry.

The decals look great.

We always played sports when I was a kid but there were only two sports we watched on TV. My mom watched the Olympics and my dad watched the Indy 500. Seeing your decals go on brought back the memory of watching this car race.

Thanks guys for the comments, the weather is fantastic here today so it’s paint time. I wrapped up th3 wheels and tyres so thought I’d put them up. Pictures of the 2K shortly.

A lovely warm weekend allowed me to get the 2K done, I enjoy spraying this clear, it’s almost idiot proof so it suits me fine. I did get some dust in it so a light sand and polish should fix it.

Cracking job! What did you use for the handwritten markings on the tyres? I'd like to do that myself.

I use to live minutes away from Bobby while he was living in New Albany, Ohio. Now he lives up around Chicago. He also went to Dennison university, just 10 minutes from my door.

Did you know that he also raced in F3, F2, F1 (once), NASCAR (once), SCCA sports car, CAN-AM, IMSA GT, endurance racing, and LeMans?

I vividly remember watching him win the 1986 Indy 500 in the Red Roof sponsored (yes I am old).

Your build is looking really nice so far! I'm watching this till finished and looking forward to the end reveal.

A small update as I’m starting to get this all together. Seat is in and I put a little CF on the gauge area just to add a little more.
