A number of parts had become dislodged from the sprues including the canopy, which unfortunately is a bit scratched

Definately the camo version although not as yellow as on the box art, more like the sand colour in the pics.

As for the looks - you're both right, it's a bit ugly and interesting but has a certain functional beauty about it, something the Russians do so well.

and I shan't comment on that besmirtching of the admirable Mr Coen.

I've no reference material of my own but here's an extract from wikipedia - (now I've learned a bit too)

The Ka-50 was designed to be small, fast and agile to improve survivability and lethality. For minimal weight and size (thus maximum speed and agility) it was—uniquely among gunships—to be operated by a single pilot only. The Ka-50 carries one 2A42 30-mm gun. The gun is mounted near the centre of fuselage. It has 460 rounds of ammunition, high-fragmentation and explosive incendiary rounds and armour-piercing rounds.
Kamov concluded after thorough research of helicopter combat in Afghanistan and other war zones that the typical attack mission phases of low-level approach, pop-up target acquisition and weapon launch do not simultaneously demand navigation, maneuvering and weapons operation of the pilot; and thus with well-designed support automation, a single pilot can carry out the entire mission alone. During operational testing from 1985 to 1986, the workload on the pilot was found to be similar to that of a fighter-bomber pilot, and the pilot could perform both flying and navigation duties.

Like other Kamov helicopters, it features Kamov's characteristic contra-rotating co-axial rotor system, which removes the need for the entire tail rotor assembly and improves the aircraft's aerobatic qualities. Using two rotors means that a smaller rotor with slower-moving rotor tips can be used, compared to a single-rotor design.
Since the speed of the advancing rotor tip is a primary limitation to the maximum speed of a helicopter, this allows a faster maximum speed than helicopters such as the AH-64. The elimination of the tail rotor is a qualitative advantage, because the torque-countering tail rotor can use up to 30% of engine power. Furthermore, the vulnerable boom and rear gearbox are fairly common causes of helicopter losses in combat;
The Ka-50 is fitted with an ejection seat, which is a rare feature for a helicopter. Before the rocket in the ejection seat deploys, the rotor blades are blown away by explosive charges in the rotor disc and the canopy is jettisoned.

And it makes toast.

very big! Find a way to enable you to remove the Rotor ! so you can store it better if needs be..

I didn't put the small Colet in the rotor assembly so I could pull it out !

Looks cool! Never heard of this aircraft before! Defiantly watching this build!

Cockpit assembly. I'm struggling to find any pictures of the real cockpit on the web, and so this might involve a bit of guesswork. I know it's light blue but I've no idea about the many dials and widgets.

Nice choice Chopper. It does have a Blue Thunder look to it.
Will drop by again and see how you getting on. If I find any reference pics will pass them on.

Hope these help, looking good though! The blue cockpit was of earlier versions I believe, as it wasn't compatible with NVGs

Yes. Just trying to place this model in a timeline. This kit has some nice detail. Was wondering if this was a newer Italeri kit.

Found it now on the box it's 2010

Looks like a badass chopper - like an apache with even more munitions! Can't wait to see the end result!!!
