2021 Group or Special Interest Builds/Suggestions

Post by aur0ra145 »

Howdy folks!

I was looking for the 2021 GB suggestion thread and didn't see any. So here it is!

I'm interested to hear how people liked the 6 months GB timing. I personally liked it a lot, especially when life gets in the way and you have to spend time away from the bench.

Looking through the 2020 thread the popular but not selected GB's were as follows:

TV or Film vehicles
Desert themed anything
1980's
Tailhook aircraft
Soviet/Eastern Front
Cold War
Unicorn
Civilian anything

Some ones I like to be considered are...

Night Fighters - I've been trying for years for this to be a thing
Radar Love - Anything with a radar. I guess that could be certain aircraft or SAM's.
Super Swede - Anything Swedish build (to exclude IKEA furniture)

I figure the Summer Sci-Fi SIG will take place again; and, there always seems to be a bit of interest in an Eggplane build come Easter.

Members of the ISM community, what say you?

I'm biased towards Soviet/Eastern Front, but would like to chuck this into the mix too. A kit tooled before 1990....no add on's allowed to try and keep this to a short build time because of possible frustrations.
Civilian anything produced in a particular decade.

Thanks for putting this up mate - I've failed dismally on the GBs this year :(

Managed to get the eggy one finished, but the sci fi one was a false start & back in the box, although I'm in with a fighting chance of finishing the late WW2 one.

Anyways I like the suggestions up top and Digger's civilian decade idea too.

I've put up the idea for a Scandinavian build (broadening the Swedish one) a couple of times and still have a kit in the stash that would fit that so definitely up for that one.

Also how about military wheeled vehicles? So armoured cars or soft-skins?
Cheers, Neil

What about a "Heavy Lifters" GB/SIG. Combat tractors/bergepanzers/wreckers/arvs, that sort of thing? Could have a nice variety of kits with that, and some lesser known vehicles.
Thanks, Andrew

Yeah I like the sound of that, I'd also have to go and buy something suitable, which is always a bonus :thumb1:

I'm happy with any of the above suggestions but if I suggest I'm doing a diorama, please take me out the back and beat some sense into me...

I am also up for most any future GB. With that said, what about possibly some of the following:

- Naval or Nautical theme build (any era, scale, or country)
- Close air support aircraft (any era, scale, or country)
- Competition Vehicle (race vehicle).. could be car, truck, motorcycle, aircraft, boat, etc.
- Figure or multi figures build (any period, scale, any G or PG rated subject)

We need to get you armor and aircraft builders to broaden your horizons into other modeling subjects :nena:
Seriously, anything mentioned already would be wonderful.

some quite good suggestions so far.

I’ll throw a few out there…

“You can’t see me!” – (stealth, anti radar, spy, etc)
“WW3” – (future tech, tank, plane, boat, ect)
“I HAVE LEGS!” – (something with legs!)
“I’m broken” – (test your weathering skills with something (anything) that's damaged/broken/crashed/burnt/wrecked/smashed/bombed/blown up!)

Another might be the "Zero Comfort Zone " or the ZCZ build everyone in order to learn new skills has to build something that stretches them a bit possibly using a kit genre they don't normally build.

In the same vein, but better, "Get the wife to build a model" GB. No need for judges with this one, first into divorce court wins.

I've got a couple that'd fit that one... we could also combine it with the unicorn build and put it to the vote...

Thinking that anyone who wants to enter puts up between three and five possibilities and the rest of us vote for which one to go for... I know it'd only work for those of us with a stash (apparently some people don't have one :jd: )

I've been a bit out of sorts lately but here are my two cents:

Desert theme: any vehicle - wheeled, tracked, winged, or rotored.
Local theme: Here in the US we have the National Guard and Reserve to serve as subjects. I don't know what would serve in other countries.
Real Space: Because it's one I actually finished last time!!!!!

And, of course, the Summer SciFi Build!    Even though I didn't finish the last one.
ON THE BENCH: Do I have to say? :(

I suggested anything but your normal a while back. So I would second the zero comfort zone. Same thing. :)

There is a special meeting of the minds today regarding this subject
Illuminati are involved and luminaries from very nefarious levels will speak
Very hush hush 1 percent kind of stuff
Decisions will be made, Worlds will crumble and there will likely be a few tears and likely deaths
Stay tuned!

But first I get waffles😋
