Hello all,

After finishing the Spitfire, I've actually got two projects on the go - an Airfix Mk. 1 Hurricane and this, a Kikka from Finemolds.

It's not an aircraft I know much about, and I bought it pretty much on a whim. It's a pretty simple kit, and it's surprisingly small. I've read a couple of articles online and I'm prepared for it not to be an easy build!

Construction has started, as usual, in the cockpit. I've added homemade belts to the otherwise empty seat but that's it really. Given its intended role, its debatable whether the cockpit would have got that dirty or weathered, but there's no fun in just leaving it!

As the canopy is moulded closed, not much of this will be visible anyway!

Off and running

OK, so a bit of Friday progress. Despite my initial concerns, construction so far has been relatively easy. The fuselage fitted together well, and I was able to insert the cockpit module from below afterwards.
I did need to use a bit of plastic strip at the wingroot to close up the gap, but it's nothing major.
The recessed details are pretty shallow though, which means you end up losing quite a bit of detail with the inevitable clean up. As I'm not very good at rescribing, this is a bit annoying, but not the end of the world.
Next up is cleaning up the nose section and the underneath wing to fuselage join.

Still plodding along with this. I'd actually consider sanding, filling and rescribing to be the 3 modelling tasks I'm worst at. Good job I'm getting a lot of practice!

As you'd expect, the joint between engine and wing isn't great. It's taken me the best part of 3 evenings to fit one reasonably well.
In hindsight, this should probably be in the jet area!

Thank you Sir! I'm getting fed up of the sand, fill, rescribe, sand, fill, rescribe routine now though!

Rescribing is a task I fail miserably at so I feel for ya. I'm getting better at filling though.

The second engine is now fitted, and so begins the long process of fairing it in. This one was a worse fit than the port side and so will need more sanding and filling. Oh joy!

Nice built and progression.

I've finally picked this back up after 6 months on the sidelines!

I was struggling with the fit of engine parts, and then the poor engine to wing join. The copious amount of filling and sanding and shallow recessed detail left me feeling pretty frustrated to be honest.

I've decided to just push on and get it painted...
As it's a simple scheme, I'll be using Tamiya acrylics straight from the jar.

Painting started and finished!
Getting an all-over green scheme to look interesting, without resorting to patchwork preshading, which I'm not a fan of, is quite difficult!

True.

The green came out very nicely!

Well, it's nearly finished. Always a milestone when they stand on their own wheels!

Talking of wheels, they were not a good fit and neither were the legs.

The decals, much like everything else, were very simple and to be fair, they're pretty nice to work with.

I did mess up the "2" on the tail so had to resort to brush painting to rescue things.
These photos hopefully show the patchy looking green I've tried hard to represent.

Only the canopy to paint now plus a few paint chips around the cockpit and she'll be done.
