Airfix releases for 2021

Post by RangerNeil »

Anyone else seen the reviews of the 2021 release from Airfix.
Quite a lot of reissues both vintage and new liveries and a few new releases. Watching the video on YouTube today I was sat there going - "I built that as a kid.. I built that as a kid..." and so on. Re-issues include things like the Aichi1 D3A1 Val in 1/2, the Handley Page Heracles and the BaE Trident in BEA livery in 1/144, WW2 figure sets of British, US and German troops in an oddball 1/32 scale and the Beach Buggy and Jag 420 in 1/32. New tooling releases include the 1/72 Mosquito with internal details, 1/72 DH Vampire F3, 1/72 Hawker Tempest V, 1/48 DH Chipmunk, 1/48 Canadair Sabre F4 and the one that really got my interest - 1/35 Austin K2/Y Ambulance just begging to be a recreation of the K2/Y "Katy" in the film "Ice Cold in Alex".

I think I might pre-order the K2?y and the Heracles..... :)

    On the board now:

    Airfix 1/35 Alvis Stalwart Mk2 FV622
    Hasegawa 1/48 A8 Crusader

The Beach Buggy re release looks interesting. It is the Bugle Buggy that was actually sold via VW dealerships in the UK.
Digger mentions the figures being released by Airfix in 1/32 scale as being an oddball scale. Actually, 1/32 is the equivalent of the generally recognised 54mm figure scale. Airfix made figures in this scale before the Japanese pushed 1/35th onto the market to such an extent that it eventually overwhelmed and superseded 1/32nd as the dominant scale in military modelling. That is why some of the very old figures and military vehicle kits by Airfix were made in order to be comparable with the still generally recognised 54mms figure scale.

Airfix have recently released a new tool 1/35 Cromwell rather than a rebox of the Academy 1/35 kits that they've been doing up until now.

There's a test build in this month's AMW magazine and it looks like a decent kit at first viewing - it'll be interesting to see what else they have planned, but the ambulance caught my eye as an interesting subject too.
    Cheers, Neil
