Beginner here

Hi All, I'm a beginner here (or rather havent done a kit for over 40 years!). Recently recieved a kit of Revell Dambusters as a present. Its hard work. Messed up the undercarriage (too fiddly). At the moment working on the front gun turret. Has me stumped: dosent seem to correspond to the instructions. Help please.

If you could give us more of an idea as to what problems you're seeing with the turret and as Scott mentioned post a couple of photos to show what you're up against then I'll dig out mine and see if I can help figure it out.

Just out of interest which of the marking options are you building yours up into? I'm still dithering on which on to choose for mine.

I sent the following to Revell:
Sorry to bother you again, but I don’t seem to be able to be able to assemble the front gun turret as illustrated in the instructions (Steps 46 – 48). Parts 45 and 46 seem different looking from illustrations. Trying to assemble these would seem to leave a gap between the turret assembly and the nose of the fuselage (see photo 2). I’ve made a guess at how parts 45 and 46 should be put together (photos 3 and 4). Finally I can’t see how the turret can be joined without glue (presumably so the turret can swivel) without the turret simply falling out.

I'm using Guy Gibsons markings.

See photos. Turret parts not as illustrated (photos 1 and 5) there seems to be a gap between the turret assembly ( Photo 2 dry assembly) and the fuselage. Turret assembly falls out if not glued to fuselage.

I can't tell if that is on the turret or not in that last picture

Ok that definitely doesn't look right does it.

I've grabbed the instructions & clear parts frame from the one I've got in the stash, and I think you might have used part 59 instead of 45.

They're similar but 59 is a little taller and I'm guessing would be a part of the mid-upper turret that wasn't used on the Dambuster's lanc but probably included as part of a generic Lancaster kit from Revell.

I'll have a better look tomorrow but maybe recheck your clear frame.

I've taken another look at your pics and the clear frame this morning and I'm still thinking you've grabbed the wrong turret...

I'm not sure how clear this will be but here is a photo of my clear parts frame, with number 45 indicated by the green arrow and 59 with the red one.


So the part 45 I've got seems to tally with the diagram in the instructions, hope that helps.

Just on posting photos (I saw you were having problems with that earlier) you will need to host them on an external site such as Flickr and then link to them from the forum. Unfortunate the forum currently doesn't have sufficient capacity or bandwidth to host directly uploaded photos which is why you were probably bouncing off the size limit.

It can seem a little daunting to start with but really gets easy once you've got your head around it - as always feel free to ask if you need any help.

Anyone thinking of doing the Revell Dambusters kit, please note that in Step 56, use parts 63 and 64. 61 and 62 don't fit.

I stay right away from Revell and airfix mostly. I hear too many sad stories.
