What type of Old Model Glue?

Post by RobRomero »

In acquiring old models I’ve found that some them have what appears to be a smooth glassy glue surface (clear or opaque). Such glue while messy often seems to form an incredibly strong bond almost as if the styrene has been welded. I’m curious as to what type of glue this might have been and wonder if careful application of such might be superior to more modern glues.
Thanks in advance for your consideration!

No clue man, no clue what it actually is .

The old cement I have dealt with is yellow/brown, crumbly and weak
I usually can get stuff apart, but the glue has eaten the plastic often

Most, if not all, model cement does actually melt the plastic so that the parts are basically welded together.

Whether you're using thicker tube glues or thinner liquid glues, the effect is basically the same.

The oldest glue I have is in this little green vial, that came in an old FROG kit.
