Artwox Model Wooden Deck Dry Fit?

I just started the Trumpeter 1:350 1907 Dreadnought with all the extras including the ArtwoxModel wood deck. I am using Bill Plunk's excellent post on building the model and have a question on how you could dry fit the wooden deck. He used the Hunter version but I assume its the same with the adhesive backing. He dry fits the deck in his pics but it would seem he would have to carefully cutout the main and superdecks to keep the adhesive backing. Can one of you advise on how to do this?

I've never fitted a wooden deck, in fact not built a ship for 30 odd years, but I plan to this year. Having looked at a few builds by others, applying some logic such as mine is and/or unless I've got the wrong end of the stick. I believe the sub decks and superstructures are built separately as sub units, in which case they're laid on top of the wooden decking before being painted/assembled and the areas cut out.

As mentioned could be wrong here and not unstood what you're asking.
