1/8 Ayrton Senna McLaren Honda MP4/4

Post by Casper »

I spotted a couple of 1/8 cars on the forum so thought I would show my MP4/4
I built this a couple of years ago and enjoyed every minute of it.
Hope you like what I did with her. Engine re-painted and a few extras added along the way. It ended up in Dubai after a chap saw it online and asked if it was for sale, I reluctantly sold it (he made me an offer too good to refuse) and packed it off on its way. Its now sitting proudly in his apartment, would love to build it again and really go to town on it.
some pics :)

The kit is the model space Kyosho and DeAgostini sold a few years ago, I believe its still available for around £700. You can buy it on the never never  and fit a screw every month for two years or you can purchase the full kit and get stuck in.
Almost the same kit as the amalgam one but not quiet and about a 1/4 of the price.
I also built a 1/4 scale Honda 750 four, Its probably the best large scale bike I have built...superb kit.

That's another stunning piece of work Casper!

Do you have any shots of the finished car with the rear wing in place?

Oh and I love Lego too - got a pile of the Star Wars stuff collecting dust on my shelves :)
Cheers, Neil

The rear wing was left unassembled for the customer but here is a pic of it dry fit. I'm sure I have a full photo somewhere :

Hope you don't mind a little bit of Lego  The Bugatti was a dream to build. I ended up buying two, one for my collection and the other to build and sell :D

Impressive :th:

Am I right in thinking these are all prepainted and you just assemble them, or is it the whole deal fitting, painting, clearcoat and decals?

Hi Kev, thanks for looking in on my MP4/4 :)
The kit comes ready to build but the engine looked like a block of boring light grey abs so I did a complete paint job on it and added numerous nuts and bolts replacing the cross head ugly screws. All the decals were applied one at a time using a guide, took some time and patience but well worth it. These kits are great but need a little work to really bring them to life. Some did the full CF decals but imo they just didn't look right, wrong weave and way oversize so I declined.
extra wiring really added a lot of detail to the model but not photo typical but close as I could get it at the time.
cheers

Casper, that is absolutely stunning, a very very clean build. The cars of that era are very special in the F1 timeline. I dont know if i could have parted with it, even for silly money....fair play to you 👍👍👍

Never too old for lego, i dont think it ever leaves you. I will get the chiron for sure.
Money is'nt everything but it sure keep's the kid's in touch.

Your MP4/4 is a lovely build and a very impressive scale model

The Lego Bugatti.......Technically brilliant!...........But, it still looks like, well, Lego!
If they had done what Airfix did with their click together Bugatti Veyron and Chiron kits it would look more like a proper scale model.
I guess that was never their intention though, but however it does have an odd appeal about it with all the functioning parts within.
