Rye Field Model 1/35 T-34 D30 Self Propelled Howitzer

Time to break out the birthday present. My first Rye Field model, my first T-34 based vehicle.... Build looks fairly straight forward to be honest, just seems to have 900 holes that need opening up before anything....

Cracking subject! :th:

First RFM kit? Go slow with the instructions but if its like their other releases it will build up nicely.

Ooohhh - that does look interesting!! There are some nice PE kits for the D30 too. I have the ordinary howitzer in my stash but this looks very interesting - comfy chair pulled up for the build.... :pop:

Yeah I could be persuaded to buy one of those without too much of a issue.

so box cracked open and started. As the turret isn't there, and there is a large hole, I decided some sort of basic interior needed to be done. Started with the engine bulkhead. Used primeportal, track-links and a miniart T-34 build to try to work out how it should look

more progress... no evidence that the floor was like that but decided they would have it raised to allow control cables/rods to run without interfering with the crew... Also started on the front- assume they are some sort of fire extinguisher. Next up, seats and VERY rough control levers....

thanks all.. .yes my second one - at least this time there are sort of references thanks to a build of the MiniArt Egyptian T-34/85 I am following elsewhere I now have this - left side wall done (needs 2 seats on the left which are the only real part of the actual vehicle I have evidence of but they can wait for the front to be done), went with only 1 fire extinguisher. Right hand side only seems to have a couple of things

seats and controls in (not 100% accurate but fills the space in)... thought I was done but then as there is a machine gun I need to add the spare ammo racks (I assume that is what it is in front of the right hand seat.... unfortunately no gun parts for the interior so will need to make "something" I guess.

thanks all... calling the interior done with the final 4 crew seats... not brilliant and will likely fall out when painted but they add a little to the space....

thanks all... managing a bit of straight forward out of the box - starting on the upper hull... a few fiddly fits but mostly it is just falling in to place

limited modelling time (would;ve been any way due to the garden fence needing painting) as I managed to fall ~6ft off a ladder and crack my ribs (rear) off a plant pot. Think there is at least one cracked but the pain has gone down... so today managed to crack on with the upper hull... going together well and I am really glad I took time to d a rudimentary interior. Not sure when I will get chance to paint it up (need to paint other models first)

managing some build time but not 100% as much as I want.... leaving smaller PE for now so on to the gun. Quite a few small bits but goes together well...

and then finally just resting it all together - starting to look the part

gun finished (Well it was until I broke the piston that controls the elevation while trying to take photos... it only sits on a small pin and the other end in a small hole with a PE strapĀ  - will repair but probably going to be fixed (which is OK as wanted it in the travel lock once painted)). Need to add tie down lops to the "turret" ring and then add home made weld beads around it, make the tracks (link & length) and then look at the fuel drums - might just do the mountings or perhaps one off one on (and battered)

That is looking really good. Plentry of detail on the gun and breach.

It took me a few seconds to realise the gun faces the other way when being fired!

build almost complete, need to add rear mudguards, weld beading round the opening and then do the tracks bit I think I need to paint the interior first. May be able to get paint time this weekend but need to prime the Pz III first

struggled with the rear fuel tanks so one on (damaged), one showing a broken bracket.... and some damage to front fenders

some interior detail painting... need to scuff it all up a touch then can join top & bottom.... not 100% with the sand colour, need to check I have the right one when it comes to the exterior - could be with pale grey to desaturate that it looks ok - just looks too "orange" at the moment...

thanks all.. I did the free-hand camo, and then redid it... actually not too bad I must say. Ammo paints as called out in the kit (not 100% on the sand yellow but with some weathering should tone down) thinned with Ammo transparator. Some overspray but, again with weathering, should tone down....
