1/8 scale Aston Martin De Agostini

This was my first 1/8 scale large scale model car and it was a build I will never forget, Built with friends two of which are no longer with us
R.I.P Paul and Imre.
It was a nightmare to build because nothing fitted correctly especially the body panels but It was a major learning curve for large scale builds.
hope you like what I did with her, no major mods just a few interior changes like the roof lining and seats and a few bits here and there around the engine.
o and a few extras thrown in

Lovely job with the leather work!!
Having looked at De Agostini in the past I shudder to think what the kit cost you...

Very nice work on a great looking kit! I saw the scale in the title and was still blown away with the size of the door in reference to your hand when I scrolled down to the last picture! The leather work takes it to a whole new level.

after hour of trying to get the body to fit properly, re-tapping the holes and adding stronger screws it finally went together

dont fancy doing that again.

Great model Casper!
I was surprised at your comment early in this thread about the poor fit of parts on the model, considering the eventual cost and the market that it is aimed at being the screw it together assembler rather than more serious model builders like us. We tend to look at things like this as a basis to improve, like you have done. But judging by your comment I would imagine that many of the screwdriver assemblers may get a bit frustrated building it.
Regardless, it does make up into one very impressive model though especially with the extra detailing work you did and improvement of a number of the parts. I like your treatment of the attache case that you added for that bit of extra 'atmosphere'.
The James Bond Aston is such an iconic motor car, and the fore runner of all the following on famous movie and TV show cars and trucks.

Thanks digger

Glad you like the extras I made up. I confess the chrome work was kit supplied though I did use some metal foil and alclad chrome here and there around the engine.

Hi Noel, thank you
everything went together well apart from the lid, Cant remember how many screws were used but it was a common problem and many people stripped or snapped the screws in the holes making the job even worst. I threaded the holes and used machine screws.

The old big Pochers were notorious for screws shearing off if the threaded holes did not have a tap ran through them beforehand. Decent machine screws were definitely the way to go, and model engineering/model railway specialist suppliers are a logical source. I would imagine that if buying in bulk it may well be worth looking at a trade fasteners supplier.

I know this is an old thread, but does someone know if De Agostini sell this as a complete kit as opposed to a part series now?

Saw the Agora James Bond DB5 on their at Telford Nov 23 show. It is based on the later JB DB5 car used in Die Another Day
Very impressive model I have to say.
I guess it is a different kit to the De Agostini one that is probably of the original from Goldfinger.

At well over £1,000 I'd hope it is amazing!!

Now that that Agora have issued a JB007 DB5 based on the latest one with the rotating Gatling machine guns from Die Another Day again in 1/8th scale, and saw the built up one on their stand at SMW Telford last November, since my last post about it, has anyone started building the Agora one?
Hopefully their version will go together much better than the De Agostini version of the original Bond car judging by comments about fit of parts on that older kit!
