Batmobile Tumbler Camo re-paint (Mattel)

Not strictly a model kit but great to practice on

My son loves DC Comics and asked if I could do a Tumbler in camouflage paintwork like the in the film.
An old scratched 2005 Mattel Tumbler was the perfect size and even had lights and sounds, Its about 13" long and 8.5" wide. The sides used to pop out on both sides and shoot red plastic darts but this was all chopped out and glued shut, the inside was repaired with styrene and painted. Just the inside of the roof/door to paint in black I think
I got some plans and photos off the internet showing the exact camo from the movie and after primer and base coat of Desert Yellow I masked up for the US Flat Brown. Some areas were lightly airbrushed with flat black and oil stains and when dry I picked out the edges in silver with a dry brush.








this is what it looked like before I got my hands on it but badly scratched and some of the darts were missing. Mint boxed they sell for £150, think they were £30 originally.

it does get in the way your right, just two small windows. Steering looks a bit high in the pic, it's hinged so the figure can be removed.

It was a lot of fun to do and was really a practice run. I have re-painted a few toys over the years as a base for learning how to airbrush, Disney Star wars ships, Terminator, Gears of war figures and I did a Halo Bust for my son Shane.
The Halo bust I did a few years ago was a money box originally but the coin slot was closed up and LED,s added to the helmet.
Was great fun to build and great for practice hope you like what I did with it

I used Vallejo paints and washes and gold leaf for the visor but it didn't burnish down as well as I had hoped.
Primed and dull aluminium base coat and I cant remember what green I used
The wash was a learning curve and I haven't used this product since.



the leaf just wouldn't burnish smooth, I think I used too much of the gluing agent

I was going to put a snide remark about Oz being decades behind, but I got told off (sort of) by a Aussie ebayer for saying I hoped a dingo didn't eat my package. Apparently he doesn't have dingos anywhere near him, as he's in the "far north" (a relative term to someone in Canada), so he only has crocs to worry about. He did fail to explain how that's better..... Last week i was an hour out of town and a bear chased a moose across the highway in front of me. Everywhere has wildlife, in America they have to deal with New Yorkers...

I was going to put a snide remark about Oz being decades behind, but I got told off (sort of) by a Aussie ebayer for saying I hoped a dingo didn't eat my package. Apparently he doesn't have dingos anywhere near him, as he's in the "far north" (a relative term to someone in Canada), so he only has crocs to worry about. He did fail to explain how that's better..... Last week i was an hour out of town and a bear chased a moose across the highway in front of me. Everywhere has wildlife, in America they have to deal with New Yorkers...

Urinals in Newcastle? Well that implies they've got plumbing now. There must be a national holiday or at least a parade in celebration. Or did the sudden increase in drownings temper the joy a bit too much?
