Model kits from the EU

Post by Steveo535 »

Hi All

I'm looking to buy some models from a model website I have used in the past (before Brexit) which is in the EU and I'm trying to find out if I will pay taxes/duties/vat on the order.

I have looked online but its a mine field trying to fine a definite yes or no and if yes how much.

Just wonder if any of guys have ordered from the EU since Brexit and if you to stung for and extra fees.

Cheer Steven

I ordered a 1:200 Scharnhorst for £235 from France and ended up paying £51 in customs so if you can get it from japan I didn’t pay any from there

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I started ordering from the EU after getting stung for customs for a bike kit I ordered from Japan.

Thanks again

I order kits & bits from Russia and they come through without issue or extra charges. The last order from Friul in Hungary (post Brexit) copped both VAT AND a handling charge. The VAT I don't mind - the handling charge I feel is a bit of urine extraction.
Been talking to a friend who is ex-HMRC and he says if the declared value on the invoice is less than £20 it should pass through customs OK.

I find if ordering from UK, Germany I get a refund on the vat yet if ordering from Italy I still have to pay it. It seems individual countries have different policies and this applies both pre and post Brexit.

A bit hit and miss whether you get stung taxes or import duty I have found in the past. I used to get lots sent from the USA. Some came through free of charge and others did not.

My mate ordered a couple of kits from a 'UK' eay shop ut they were set from France. Got them without extra charges until a couple of weeks later when he got a bill from UPS.
