Ya you read it
Fire Extinguisher.

What does someone do on the first morning of an eleven day vacation? well he hides from his cleaning crazed wife and messes with a plastic fire extinguisher.

This came from a Japanese seller along with a model kit, cannot remember which one. It is a weird ABS rubber and had a decal written in Japanese all around the base. I thought it was a pencil eraser, it has that feel to it.
So, I thought “ I am gonna make a cool chrome extinguisher out of this”

Electrical wire as hose

Then brass fitting and aluminum trumpet end…I flared the trumpet from a tube of aluminum and the polished the metals

This is kinda what I want

I could figure the scale, but me and math are not communicating, haven’t been for a while. I think we are divorced actually .

Interesting side project. Much better than cleaning. I really don't know why woman get this bug every now and then where they feel compelled to clean the whole house. Mine announced that very same thing yesterday it really must be hard wired into their DNA. I find the best thing to do as you are. Hide out and become deafer than I was yesterday.
Next time you take a pic can you flip the saw over so I can see the other side...please.

indeed nice side project... but your lucky because I'm the one doing most of the cleaning here.... Because if I rely on her, the only that's going to be done is cleaning the kitchen !

Fire extinguisher? Are you expecting trouble with one of your builds?

 That'd be my guess :th:

Interesting side project though - watching with interest.

As for cleaning, me and Mrs Tomcat both hate it so we only tend to end up dusting when the spiders are skiing on it... :shifty:

Nice! I was worried you may have burned down the man cave based on the title. Very cool little project.

I seem to have a fascination at the moment, and so decided to learn something

Classes of Fires and Extinguishers Used for Each
(source: www.nyc.gov)

Class A: A fire extinguisher labeled with letter “A” is for use on Class A fires. Class A fires are fires that involve ordinary combustible materials such as cloth, wood, paper, rubber, and many plastics.

Class B: A fire extinguisher labeled with letter “B” is for use on Class B fires. Class B fires are fires that involve flammable and combustible liquids such as gasoline, alcohol, diesel oil, oil-based paints, lacquers, etc., and flammable gases.

Class C: A fire extinguisher labeled with letter “C” is for use on Class C fires. Class C fires are fires that involve energized electrical equipment.

Class D: A fire extinguisher labeled with letter “D” is for use on Class D fires. Class D fires are fires that involve combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium and sodium.

Class K: A fire extinguisher labeled with letter “K” is for use on Class K fires. Class K fires are fires that involve vegetable oils, animal oils, or fats in cooking appliances. This is for commercial kitchens, including those found in restaurants, cafeterias, and caterers.

Common Fire Extinguishers fire extinguisher safety

The most commonly used fire extinguisher is the red ABC extinguisher. This is the multipurpose dry chemical extinguisher. The ABC type is filled with monoammonium phosphate, a yellow powder that leaves a sticky residue that may be damaging to electrical appliances such as a computer. They can be used on A, B, or C type fires.

Another common extinguisher is a silver extinguisher that contains pressurized water. These extinguishers are used for Class A fires only. They should never be used on Class C or Class K fires. Adding water to an electrical or oil fire can cause more damage and injury. Only use water filled extinguishers for fires that you know are all Class A materials.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) extinguishers are used for class B and C fires. These extinguishers are usually red too like the ABC extinguishers, but have “CO2” clearly marked on it. CO2 extinguishers contain carbon dioxide, a non-flammable gas, and are highly pressurized. They don’t work very well on Class A fires because they may not be able to displace enough oxygen to put the fire out, causing it to re-ignite. These extinguishers do not leave a residue which makes them ideal for electrical fires.

Memories time.......
What you don't see anymore are the Halon extinguishers! It got banned in the 1990's as a greenhouse gas I believe.
I have two "encounters with Halon, first was in the Alvis Stalwart HMLC - just behind the drivers cab bulkhead and before the front load bed one are two large halon tanks and running around the lower hull is a FireWire system. In the event of a fire - fairly common on these especially in the UBRE role the firewire picked up the localised heat and sounded a LOUD alarm in the cab together with a red light up on the roof to the right of the driver. In the same location were a pair of Tee handles, When the alarm sounded and the light flashed you grabbed one handle, twisted and pulled - that dumped the first Halon container into the lower hull displacing most of the oxygen and hopefully putting the fire out. If the alarm continued you pulled the second one. If it still continued you stopped immediately and got the hell out through the roof hatches.
Other one was the computer suite in Fords Aveley plant. Roof "spray heads" in there were all inked to a set of, if memory serves, 6 halon tanks roughly the height of an O2 bottle in a welding site but twice the dia. If the heat sensors - or smoke sensors - in the inner computer room picked up something an alarm sounded and you had 15 seconds to get out of there. After that the system dumped all the halon into the room and anyone left in there stopped breathing. When Halon got banned they hooked the room up to the water system - never could get my head around that - dumping water on 440v electrical systems.....

As for Class A - spare a thought for your cars.... We used to store the seat foam in a Light Construction Building when it came in from the manufacturers. The LCB was situated about half a mile from the plant - for a reason. The fire retardant was applied in the trim shops so the raw foam was highly flammable. Every aisle in the LCB terminated in a fire exit because if a fire started the experts from the Fire Brigade estimated we had less than 30 seconds to clear the building before first the atmosphere became filled with thick black toxic smoke and then within 1 minute the temperature inside the building would reaching 1200 deg F.... Fire regs - inc. smoking - were stricter there than in a gunpowder mill....
