Red Iron Models 1/24 scale Sputnik 1

Post by Scruffy »

This is the first injection molded kit from Red Iron Models and I was fortunate enough to get ahold of one. It is a cool little kit of this notable satellite.

The kit is all on one sprue and also comes with some heavy duty photoetch and precut brass tube for the antennas.

Image

The body goes together easily enough, although there is an annoying seam line to clean up that runs right through a row of rivets around the circumference of one body half that is tricky to clean up. So far though it goes togeather pretty easily.

I looked at this company last week. There are some nice subjects for sale that I wouldn't mind owning.

I was able to add the final p/e screw heads to the body and get some paint on.

The p/e was kind of thick, which made it kind of fiddley to bend up the mounts for the antennas, but they are a nice detail when done. The kit display base was painted and the lettering picked out in red.

This was a fun build of something a bit different for me. And it looks cool sitting on the shelf, so that's cool!.
