DETOLF cabinets

I'm rapidly running out of display space, one way is to add extra shelves in my Detolf cabinet. As we all know Ikea don't do the shelves as separates.
You either buy another whole one, store/dump the other elements, utter waste,
get glass cut, which works out more expensive
than the previous option or go perspex.
The perspex option still isn't cheap considering what it is and there are issues with quality, and the effects of UV and weight causing sag. Can anyone recommend a supplier of the said perspex that performs well?

More expensive than perspex is Polycarbonate.
It transmits more light than glass, is structurally stronger than perspex and is UV resistant.
You can cut it easily.
OR get glass cut.....sometimes old door pane glass is useful.

I'm having currently the same problem with a cabinet that's about the same size of yours but in wood, with only 4 glass shelves. And with my next build, it's going to be full. And I don't have space for bigger projects in it. I'm currently looking at other, bigger cabinets, and how to reorganize my work area. But here's where my English finally have it's limit... what is perspex ?

Still expensive about 50% of a new cabinet and sags I'm told, hence me asking for recommendations

Sadly not in the UK, I had the idea of buying a second hand Detolf which hand no shelves and getting the sides cut. The cost to cut tempered glass was almost as much as buying a new cabinet
Same as getting tempered glass cut to size, basically you have but a whole sheet they cut it down, a sheet plus cutting again cheaper to but a new cabinet

It wouldn't have to be tempered glass for such small pieces just thick enough maybe 4mm which for the small amount of weight they would have to support would be ok. I have no idea of the safety rules in the UK if that's a issue.

Off cuts from a user of plastic sheets maybe possible or even getting 1/3 of a sheet from such a place.

IF you have good light around the cabinet you might get away with a non-translucent shelf (i.e. wood) if it's near eye level.
If it does need to be clear, see if there's any second hand shops around that deal with housing parts, they will have taken in widows with rotten frames and will keep the glass for resale, far cheaper than new glass. Try a search for "used building materials".
