Italeri 1/48 Hurricane Mk. 1, Malta 1941 - Work in progress

Hi gents,

As I have reached the painting process on my 1/32 P51, I thought that now would be a good time to open another box.

This time I chose Italeri's Hurricane Mk.1 from Malta as I find this scheme very appealing to my eye (that and this time I wanted to go with something that requires minimal masking) :)

I will be building it OOB since it has some PE goodies included and will probably be doing it with an open engine so some additional wiring might be called for. I'll see.

So, nothing much for now, just this small intro.

Thank you for taking an interest. :)

Best,
Nikola

Nice one ! Lovely scheme as you say ! Will follow for sure. Can't wait to see the fit of the kit. Never try an Italeri kit but I only ear horror stories about them

Looks interesting!!! I've done some 1/35 Italeri armour so its going to be good to see how their aviation range stacks up... :)

I've also never built an Italeri kit before so we'll see. The reviews are relatively good as far as this kit goes.

Hi gents,

I finally started working on it. :)

This is my first Italeri kit and to my surprise the plastic is very very soft. OK for cleaning, sanding and scraping, but it feels so thin and fragile. Also very bendable.

The quality of molding and fit don't seem that great as well.

I started with wing and wheel well parts and in my opinion this is a very strange way to break up the parts. It's going to be a pain in the a$$ to make it right:

Also, initial engine assembly done. Molding quality is far from great.

Must be a really old kit in tooling terms cause The engine does look all kind of twisted and mussed up, but I guess it won't be seen and not matter. Be interesting to see the fuselage go together and the wings to it. It may yet surprise.
:th: :th: :th:
:cheers2:

PS...Went and checked scalemates and it is a relatively new tooled. How or what possessed them to release a kit with a engine so badly molded. Doesn't lift their reputation at all.: :

I'll use the engine for practice and try and make something decent out of it. If it still looks like s@#t I'll just cover it. :)

Almost looks like something that didn't re-materialize properly from Dr Who or Star trek..

Good luck to improve this kind of ... uh ... plastic parts? Italeri provides good kits but a lot of work too!
Have fun with your build! :thumb2:

I'm just about to finish the Sea Hurricane version of this kit. I quite enjoyed building it, hopefully you do too.

Plug away at it you will get her done :th:
Focus on areas that will be seen…like paint and decals small details of engine and cockpit will not really be visible

On another note, when I read the title, I immediately thought of The Falcon Of Malta
Canadian Spitfire ace pilot
Really interesting read up on him, a bit of a nutter :wtf:

That is a very strange way to fit the gear wells! I think a good course of action might be to scratchbuild some sort of interior bracing instead of messing with the fit in a tight spot like that!

All the best, NightTrain288

Hi gents,

Very slow progress and I now think that I chose a wrong project which will take a lot of time which I definitely don't have at the moment. 😩

I dry fitted the wings and this is what I get if I follow the locator pins:

Had the same problem once. Cut the pins aways and align it the best you can afterwards. Rescribe if necessary. On my side I had to fill in a full panel line and rescribe it a few millimeters away.
It's a shame, the details looks good despite the quality of the plastic, except for the engine.

Well gents,

After giving it some thought I am putting this one on ice for now and moving on to a new project. I just don't have enough free time at the moment for all the unneccessary work. I need a nice, relatively straightforward kit to work on, but I think I will come back to it eventually. :)

Best,
Nikola

That's a shame Nikola, but we do this for fun so definitely put it away for now if that's the right thing to do and go back to it when you've got more time on your hands :cheers2:

Looking forward to seeing what you tackle next though :th:

Sorry you're not feeling this one. Way better idea to set it aside and return later
