Hello everyone,

so I'm currently working on my Tony. The decals are on. Had big problems with the big decals at the back. Used tamiya strong setting solution over and over again. It's Brad Pitt ! But moving on, put a gloss coat on everything to start the weathering. First phase of weathering done, now time for the flat coat...

Here's the result :

As you can see, beside having huge silvering ! the decal lifted off !!!!

Anyone know how I could repair all that ? the silvering (it shows more on the other side off the plane) and the lifting.

Tamiya Decal solutions... to the garbage bin !

Ulimate do a 3 strength package of decal solutions. I've had to use the Walther solver set a few times and that's a strong solution...never tried this yet.
VMS go a slightly different way which might be good for the Tamiya decals. In that you actually soak the decal in the solution instead of water...I've never tried this yet.
Not sure what you can do to fix this now the varnish is on. Perhaps when the varnish went on as it dried contracted slightly and lifted the decal more.

So I got three options for ya that I have used:
1. Tamiya X20A thinner …it usually crinkles the decal then it settles. Paint it on top of the non setting area with a brush
2. A clear coat to stick it down like future, Aquagloss or the like. Again painted on top of the decal
3. My ultimate last resort is CA glue. PVA white glue thinned with water would work also. Glue on the underside of the decal and smooth it down quickly

If none of those work, paint the white part that won’t stick
Do order the three Ultimate decal solutions, they work very well

I'd look at either removing the damaged bit and touch it up with paint. Or paint some clear under the lifted area, then over the area to press it down, and hope that the paint will glue it down. Then a bit of sanding and touch up. Good luck however you do it.

I've had a similar issue in the past. I resorted to putting some very fine cuts with a new blade right through the decal, then using setting solution. The cuts allow the solution to get under the decal a glue it back down.

Well thank you Scott !!! Solution no.1 worked really well !! Don't know where you learned that trick but pretty nice. X20A works better as a Decal Solution then their own !
I had already tried the clear coat on top of it but with the airbrush..

I would love to say I came up with the technique, but somebody shared it on ISM Forum long ago
I only use X20A for decal emergencies as it is useless to me as a paint diluent
You have to be very careful as it can melt a decal into goo in a heartbeat

I think that your clear coat got under the non set decal to lift it up..that is my diagnosis of the problem
