Yes, 2 Dragon kits for a total of £50 at a model show. A King Tiger with magic tracks and a metal barrel and a Flak 88 with metal barrel and a full crew in winter kit plus ammo boxes. Less than half price.

5. Nightmare buying experience?

Not really. Took 3 attempts to get replacement tracks for a Meng Leopard but that's about it. I haven't been let down by any shops I have bought from. E-bay have been fine

None that I recall

Yes I do. Tiny little store but a great range of kits and supplies. Only open at weekends and he shutdown over Covid but he's back now. A little bit more expensive but he counters that with 10% off. And yes, I always buy at least 1 kit when I go. And supplies too.

Mmmm. for kits only....hard to say. It really depends on what I'm looking for... I would be tempted to say Hannant's because usually they have everything and good prices. Or BNA Model world, which is my favorite online store. Even if I live around the world from it they have a lot of stuff, good prices and shipping cost isn't awful like shop from Europe or even those in the US. As for Canadian site, they are 2 that I find have a great kits, Jac Hobby (the site isn't that well made but have great prices, it's one of my local hobby store) and Hobby Sense.

2. What is a good source for aftermarket ,PE, detail sets etc etc Genre specific is fine
Again BNA Model World as everything... Or Hannant's. But will mostly go with BNA. Tried recently Sprue Brothers in the US and thought they had a lot of choices and prices weren't that bad

3. Do you buy from Amazon?EBay?
I would think it's only on the modeling side for that question...
I did buy recently a lot from Ebay for my Wingnut Wings kits. But usually no. For me, living in Canada, most of the time the shipping prices make it more expensive than most other places I can find stuff. And most of the time, the shipping doesn't include duties charges that are awful in Canada. usually I'll buy something there when I'm searching for something specific. But I'll still look, when buying a kit, if it will be cheaper on ebay.
As for Amazon, most of things I look are usually more expensive. Except sometimes a few tools or books. I love books about modeling subject or modeling technics. I have quite a few. I love books in general too. Have hundreds... And my girlfriend even more !!! Being a literature teacher..
But if the question is for buying in general, I do buy a lot from Amazon, even more since COvid. Ebay not that much again.

4. Have you had a Good buying/ smoking hot deal experience ?
Yes I did with the bunch of wingnut wings kits I bought recently ! I bought 6 recently in a period of month. The first 3 from the same seller. And got the 3 combine with shipping cheaper then the selling price in Canada. Bought two more afterwards from another seller, but the same for the two, and that time got them for the asking price in Canada, but I think even a bit less. Only the last one I paid more then what it was worth but only 50$ if I remember the the selling price here. So considering the ridiculous prices people are selling those kits since they went out of business (triple the price mostly) I would consider this a really hot hot smoking deal !!

5. Nightmare buying experience?
None that I remember. Only thing I would say is the shipping time when ordering from hannants !

Yes.... And will keep it a secret so I can buy the 2 kits I want when money is there after Christmas...

7. Do you have a local shop still? How is it fairing? Do you buy from it and support it no matter price ?
Well local shops for me are hard. This hobby in my province is a dying breed. I have two and would usually only buy paints and glue from them ; and sometimes tools. I do buy from them whatever I can to support them.
One is 5 minutes from my home and has been around since I was 10 years old (now 44). But it's mostly specialize in sports cards and collectibles. Over the years I grew bigger but the prices for the kits he sells are most of the time way over the chart. And not a good choice. But when there's one not that bad I will buy it. He doesn't have much of selection of other stuff.
My other local store is becoming really great !! He always had a better selection of paints, kits and tools. But recently, a bit before COVID, he started to have an even better selection. And of everything. Added a few months ago all AK's weathering stuff and 3rd generation acrylic that I really love since trying it recently ! Always has a good selection of tools, including Tamiya and Godhand. And even has now Meng/Dspiae. All the prices are really good too. It's the Jac Hobby store I talked about. And even has an internet site to buy everything for everyone everywhere in the world.

8. What is the last model related thing you have bought as of Friday November 26. show a picture if you can
No pictures. But yesterday when to my Jac Hobby and bought a few paints of AK 3rd generation, Vallejo Model range, tamiya and a pair of tweezer from. Tamiya.

1. Tell us your favourite online sites for kits
Another vote for Hannants, sometimes they're a little pricier than shopping around but they're always reliable and quick service; the only thing I sometimes trip over is their minimum £10 spend when I'm looking for AM stuff so I plan ahead when I know I want a sheet of decals or something similar.

I've also used e-models fairly regularly with no problems.

I will also go direct to the manufacturer especially for some AM sets or figure related stuff, but the import duty lottery seems to be creeping in more regularly at the moment when dealing with European/overseas vendors.
2. What is a good source for aftermarket ,PE, detail sets etc etc Genre specific is fine
Hannants again, but as mentioned above I've also ordered direct from Eduard & Czech Master (and probably others that don't immediately spring to mind).
3. Do you buy from Amazon?EBay?
Yes to both, Amazon for convenience and E-bay for stuff I can't find anywhere else.
4. Have you had a Good buying/ smoking hot deal experience ?
I was looking for a Tamiya Aston Martin DBS kit a few years back and they were going for upwards of £200 but kept checking regularly and one popped up for £30 including postage so that was grabbed quick. I've checked again today and the kit is still showing as £150 upwards and beyond £400.
5. Nightmare buying experience?
Not really a nightmare but I do remember ordering a kit from South Korea and after months of chasing the guy eventually admitted he didn't have it. He refunded the money once he'd owned up but it was a pain to keep chasing. Just about everyone I've dealt with on e-bay has been fine.
6. Any secret sneaky places you have found that have model stuff we wouldn’t expect?
In the UK HobbyCraft often have good deals on kits tucked away between the knitting and scrap-booking etc

There is a shop in the town but we only pop in there if we're in town for something else which is rarely. I also can't actually remember the last time I bought anything in there - the shop itself is fairly small and half given over to model railways.

It's hard to beat Eduard products when available for the subject your modeling. Quinta 3d detail products for cockpit detailing are outstanding. RB Motion specializes in machined automotive related details and the quality is second to none. For me the sources for many after market detail items are difficult to consistently identify as I search the entire web to competitive price. I do not have any local availability of PE. After identifying the best price I try to due my due diligence in checking out the vendors rating or feedback concerning customer service and such before making the final purchase decision.

Yes

4. Have you had a Good buying/ smoking hot deal experience ?

Several times I think, both on-line and in-person. Some examples include (U.S. Dollars):

- 1/93 C.Momoli USS Constitution cross section $21.00

And many more as I am a value shopper of opportunity (smile), for example... purchasing raffle and model drawing tickets at IPMS model shows $20.00 may get you three or more models, tools, detail sets, etc., if your lucky.

Jadlamracing for kits, free postage often makes them a better source than eBay and other sites in the UK
Diodump.com has great resin buildings and bases
Reality in scale and Fields of Glory (FOG Models) have lots of interesting bits and pieces

I don’t usually buy any aftermarket but Hannants do have a good selection

Not really any great deals but good customer service from companies is likely to make me use them again

I ‘m not sure it counts as sneaky but Hobby craft, my wife dragged me there as she as various crafting hobbies and I was pleased to find a model section

Hmmm this one is tricky, there is a shop locally but the owner isn’t overly friendly or seemingly bothered about sales so I have stopped going there. The majority of my purchases are online.

I bought the Tamiya quad gun tractor, 25 pounder and limber which arrived yesterday

1. Tell us your favourite online sites for kits

Andy's HHQ. Great YouTube channel, really up to date with new releases, and he'll show an unboxing preview for a lot of the new kits coming out. I also use Burbank House of Hobbies as I've always had good interaction when purchasing online from them. Sprue Brothers is another go-to for me. Lastly, I used Squadron a ton in the past. However, since the new management, I haven't purchased anything from them yet.

2. What is a good source for aftermarket ,PE, detail sets etc etc Genre specific is fine

Ebay. Hands down this is the best place for me. Some dude in Poland seems to be the only person that has Aber metal barrels in stock with reasonable shipping to the US.

3. Do you buy from Amazon?EBay?

I get a lot of stuff off Ebay. Especially for the Warhammer 40k stuff, you can buy just a single model for a reasonable price and not have to buy the entire box set it comes in.

Amazon I avoid. I'll recount this in question #5.

4. Have you had a Good buying/ smoking hot deal experience ?

Sometimes the Poland Aber barrel dude throws extra antennas or machine gun barrels in an order if I do a large purchase. It makes me happy. Also, I've Ebay'd some Warhammer 40k minis for pretty cheap compared to their retail (50% off).

5. Nightmare buying experience?

First is with Amazon. I purchased a egg-plane F4U Corsair for the wife to build. The kit was from Tiger Models, the company was based in Hong Kong. The description and photos showed the kit coming in a box. Best Choice Online Store, did not only lie about the kit coming in a box, they were much worse. After leaving a negative comment, the second comment the webstore had ever gotten, detailing how they were engaging in false advertising and not providing a product as published they contacted me. "If you change your negative feedback to positive, we will refund you your purchase." I figured it was my duty as a modeler to have the negative comment stand to warn others. They even had the gall to message me a second time. "If you change your negative feedback to positive, we will refund your purchase and send you an additional kit free of charge." Yeah, no way buddy.

As of the writing of this post, it seems they are no longer doing business on Amazon.

Second was a bit sadder. I have no ill will against the guy. When I got back from my 2019/2020 modelling hiatus I was super excited to get back into the hobby. A local hobby store I had visited often when living in another state was closing after having been in business for over 50 years. They were liquidating their stock. So, I called up the guy, said "if I send you $200, will you just throw some stuff in a box for me. I don't really care what, I know you're trying to get rid of your stock, whatever you think is fair." Well, I never received anything after sending the money. The store closed and I had no way of contacting him. By the time I figured he wasn't sending anything, it was a bit late for a charge back. I like to think he just got busy and forgot. Again, the guy was really nice and I hope he's doing well.

6. Any secret sneaky places you have found that have model stuff we wouldn’t expect?

Sometimes liquidation stores have some old kits, and antique malls will have older kits occasionally. Never really anything worth buying, as I focus on well manufactured kits now, rather than fighting a kit ever step of the way.

7. Do you have a local shop still? How is it fairing? Do you buy from it and support it no matter price ?

We have two. One is a chain store, HobbytownUSA. The other is owned by an older gentleman. Though, the old guy is about an hour drive to get to. HobbytownUSA is my go to for just about anything. They have really expanded their kit selection, paints and hobby products. It's really quite impressive. They will even special order stuff if you want something specific.

The old dude store I try to buy at least some paint every time I'm in the store to help him out. He has a lot of kits and variety; but, not a lot of new stuff. It's where I got my seaplane kit! He is also the only local retailer of Abteilung brushes.

There is also a Games Workshop Warhammer outlet. They do pretty good. They are selling polystyrene cocaine, so they have that going for them.

Additionally there are a couple of game stores, think 40k, Star Wars Legion, Magic The Gathering, etc. They do have a hobby section for the war gamers out there and they have decent paint from Vallejo or Army Painter. But, they're selling Magic The Gathering which is cardboard crack. So, I don't feel like I ever need to buy something from them.

Wellll...... I was typing up this response and opened a YouTube video to watch and found out that Squidmar's H&S Airbrush purchase went live. So, I got one of those. It has a 0.2mm and a 0.4mm nozzle and two different paint cups. Plus the base of the airbrush has a twist valve to meter the psi going into it. Sorta neat I guess.

Kind of expensive; but, I sort of made up my mind a while back I'd get one when they were released. It's only available for 2 weeks to purchase. So I jumped on it. Plus, I like his channel.

I have 4 Hobbytown USAs near me. 3 of them are relatively small but the 4th has a really nice selection of kits and supplies. For some reason finding good brushes is a real pain in the buttocks unless you go to a store that caters to artistic painting (I guess that's the way to say it). They don't even stock Mig or Ammo brushes. I don't get that. I buy most of my things from my local shops if they have what I'm looking for. If not I go online and then buy other things, that I would have bought locally, to spread out the shipping

3. Almost never buy from ebay or amazon as they are usually not the cheapest and freight is a issue.
4. A few times I've gotten very good deals, but one of the most recent was buying a WNW kit for the original sale price. I was stoked.
5. A few issues with people taking there sweet time to post a item......start to wonder whether it's ever going to get here. There was also
the time when a Chinese company was doing the same thing and their communications was terrible. They folded up shortly after I got
my last order....I was lucky some weren't.

7. We do have a local toy shop that stocks old Revel and Tamiya kits mostly aircraft and in 1/72 with some 1/48 and a little armor in 1/35. Needless to say the prices are through the roof. Supplies are poorly represented mostly humbrol paint and contacta cement they haven't heard of anything else. A real waste of time even looking. I spoke to the staff about it and they got rid of the Tamiya paint at 1/2 price cause no one was buying it.....weird. They also commented that people weren't buying what they stocked and that often customers would ask for a particular kit , but they couldn't supply.

Yes. Employee discount (10%) from Amazon is handy. EBay often has hard to find/out of production kits. I got my Airfix Rotodyne from EBay after exhausting all other avenues. Got my airbrush and compressor from Amazon.

Just got 2 x 1/72 Lancasters from Hobbycraft for less than half price!!

5. Nightmare buying experience?
Ongoing. I bought a 1/48 Huey Cobra from Arm. Delivery happened when we were moving house - Royal Mail ignored the paid-for redirect and tried delivering to the old address. By the time the new residents forwarded the "We tried to deliver" card the time had run out and when I tried to get it delivered I was told it had been returned to sender. At this moment I don't have the kit and Arma have no record of receiving the returned package. We are currently discussing it.....

Funnily enough - Hobbycraft!! I always associate it with the wifes hobbies - never realised they catered for mine too..

Not any more. Had a nice one in Lakeside when we lived in the old place. I haven't found any local to the new address yet.

A set of Ammo weathering and Russian MV paint products.

1. Emodels generally, good prices and a wide range of tools/accessories/paints.
2. Like most Hannants for aftermarket. Ebay can be good for obscure stuff too.
3. Amazon tends to be a last ditch option for me, but sometimes good deals can be found there. As I said before Ebay can have some decent aftermarket stuff, and you can get some nice figures there as well.
4. Best deal I had was £50 for the Airfix 1/24 Typhoon from Jadlam Models.
5. Nope, nothing bad from me. I'm pretty careful about where I shop, and if I'm buying from somewhere I don't know I'll use Paypal for extra protection.

7. Nothing in town, but Wonderland Models is about a 40 min drive, it's the biggest hobby shop in Scotland. If I'm in Edinburgh I'll generally pop in and buy something, even if it is more expensive than online. TBH for me
there's nothing better than going into a hobby shop with a rough idea of what I want, browsing the shelves and finding a great kit!

All have been good, really. Mostly very quick shipping sellers who appreciate a quick pay and a nice word

Had a large 1/8 car eBay kit come without an engine much to the seller’s surprise…BS. I got a decent refund % and bought a resin engine.
Couple shifty buggers who never sent anything and I got a refund. I am careful who I buy from, have not been screwed over yet touch wood.

My sneakiest is an local online auction house that sometime has model kits. I am super picky over what I get there…see below

His hours are not the greatest for me but it is well stocked and I try to buy something to support him and be civil to this owner who likes to talk a bit off colour IMHO
