100% chance for a white Christmas in Vancouver…and it is snowing pretty good right now Christmas Eve 9:20 :D

This is a video of crazy snow dog this morning…just click on it
    Image
    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?
Not much unusual. We get new pyjamas to open on Christmas Eve and watch the polar express before bed
As a kid my family would all go for a snowy cold walk after turkey dinner and before dessert. I was told it was for digestion, but likely bloating, farting and to sober up a bit?

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?
God, the time off work. We used to ski after Christmas and that may come around again in a year or so
Just really some peace and quiet and I live to be home without relatives, thanks Covid
    This year’s haul:
    Image
    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?
A chocolate Kokanee beer bottle from an older sibling when I was 13. Crappy fake chocolate, it started big war about me not appreciating gifts so they gave up trying
It steeled me and told me that I needed to be independent, look beyond family and find my own way and future. So I did.

    6. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year? Do you like to give or receive gifts?
Simple things this year but I shopped early for everyone. We will see how I did. I agree with getting a buzz from finding the right gift for someone, especially when unexpected.
Wife liked her silk scarf..third year in a row. Hand made and beautiful. I gave kids some money, it seemed to fit
    7. What are you hoping for Christmas? What did you did you actually get ? Bonus points for photos of your loot
Pretty much have everything I want. Hoping my kids find their way into this next stage of their lives is my wish

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?
Not sure, maybe, don’t really need anything
    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?
That is definitely a sure thing after presents and breakfast

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?
Kraus, polar express, Grinch, Charlie Brown, Home Alones , etc etc. I like lots of them
Mele Kalikimaka Bing Crosby probably my favourite

My favourite Christmas movie is that old black and white film based on Dickens novel A Christmas Carol starting Alasdair Sym as Ebenezer Scrooge. It was made back in the 50's and to my mind his portrayal of Scrooge has never been surpassed.

I could not find the photo of our long hair cat dressed in the front two legs, face, and hat as Santa Cat, so this is "Sweet Pea" dressed as part of the tree skirt:

    The others:

    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?

    a) Christmas Eve with my Parents, brothers and sisters, their spouses, and sometimes their parents (a gathering)
    b) Performing in a youth orchestra for 6-10 songs at a larger church (I assist Jarrod, my handicapped son)
    c) Going to our local large shopping center after Thanksgiving and until Christmas to help Jarrod perform as Santa's Helper handing out candy canes and other goodies to the children after meeting Santa and taking pictures. Jarrod would want to do this for numerous hours every week, just to help Santa. This just ended last year, but went on for over 15.
    d) Christmas Day with just my wife, children, and grandchildren, sharing gifts, fellowship, and love.
    e) Buying lottery tickets to hand to every adult on Christmas Day as a part of their presents (along with other stuff).
    f) Instead of a lunch or supper, we always have had a very large Christmas breakfast with eggs to order, hash browns, bacon, ham, oatmeal, breads, and many other items. It is usually a two hour event followed by opening presents.

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?

The traditions mentioned above and for the celebration of Christs birth

    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?

    a) I was always proud of my head to toe scaled down Air Force uniform when I was 8.
    b) My first large scale model, 1/24 Airfix Stuka (I think), which I totally botched, but I was hooked.
    c) (not a kid) returning home after an extended military deployment and having a family Christmas.
    d) (not a kid) the gift of a Springfield M1 Garand was totally unexpected.

6a. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year?

Yes, Jarrod loves the Playstation yearly NFL Football games, Becky (wife) wanted a specific diamond neckless for some time that I was finally able to purchase, and last my granddaughter (15) has always wanted a pocket knife so I got her a limited edition Buck lock blade that she adores.

6b. Do you like to give or receive gifts?

Actually I enjoying giving more than receiving, but sometimes getting is nice too. Definitely giving.

7a. What are you hoping for Christmas?

The end of COVID and world peace, but seriously I did not have my hopes set on anything this year.

7b. What did you did you actually get ?

I got a fantastic time with my entire family and some friends I have not seen for some time. Material things included a 1/32 F-100 Super Sabre by Trumpter; 1/35 TACOM Jagdtiger with full interior, a 1/48 Pro-Modeler JU-52/3 Transporter; a new cutting mat and several different hobby knives and blades, etc.

Bonus points for photos of your loot

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?

    Always

    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?

Not even a little, but this was one rare time that I did not mind at all.

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?

    - A Christmas Carol, starring George C Scott, and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
    - I cannot just pick one song....

For a bonus, here are some other Christmas photos:

Not actually ours.... my mom's (picture taken last night) ; as she's kind of Christmas freak and decorations are always awesome and out of this world outside and inside. For example, outside, there's a replica of a sugar cane my father made that is 12 feet long. When my father was still with us, and both of them younger, they was a lot of decorations outside and they won a few prizes for them. Everything inside is well decorated. Nothing cheesy. Even the table with at for dinner is always beautifully decorated and with a different theme each year.

    No extra points !

    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?
    None

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?
It depends for each year. This year was to be able to see my family for it...as last year it wasn't permitted. It was this but limited in number. We're a small family so we were able with surpassing just a little the max permitted

    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?
Non in particular but it's mostly getting up the next morning to play with the gifts and assemble them. One thing I loved was putting on the decals on my GI Joes vehicles I would get.

    6. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year? Do you like to give or receive gifts?
Don't think so for the perfect gift... I love to receive and give. But I like better giving as I always to give a little extra.

    7. What are you hoping for Christmas? What did you did you actually get ? Bonus points for photos of your loot
I was hopping for 2 particular and and PE bending tool... didn't get them  But still had pretty good gifts !!
ImageIMG_3275 by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
The white box is actually a coffee bean container. As I' big coffee lover and have, let's say, quite a deluxe espresso machine. And if some of you remember, this was also my Christmas gift in advance :
ImageIMG_2681 2 by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
yes it's the same dog as earlier ! but were now 3 months later

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?
No. Money is tight this year as I bought a lot of kits in September and October and a lot of expenses for the new house. May I would have got tempted if a few my desired kits were on sale...but unfortunately not...or fortunately

    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?
Yes for sure but surely not as much as I wanted. We still have have Christmas related thing to do today. I have a funeral in 2 days. And have to spend time with the misses and the kids.

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation !! it is a tradition for me to watch it every year and still find it funny. Even have it on DVD !
For the Christmas none in particular but I love all the old classics from Sinatra or of that era.

    Merry Christmas again everyone

Thank you Scott ! usually there's a Christmas Village at the bottom. She takes on day for the tree and one day for the Village. But decided this year not to do it because of her dog she's had a knee problem for the last few months
Happy new year to you too !

No tree I'm afraid. I'm away for Christmas and I live by myself so spent the money on presents instead :th:

    2. Share pic your pet(s), bonus points if dressed for Christmas

    Failed again, no pets

    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?

We have to play at least 1 board game, except my brother in law who is a Board game grinch

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?

As a kid, the thrill of it all, looking at all the 'extra' stuff in the kitchen cupboards, putting the tree up with my big sister, going to the park in the morning in my new football kit and new ball for a game with Dad. As an adult, the lovely sense of family as we gather to celebrate. Getting merry but not too merry.

    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?

Too many to mention. In terms of meaning I'd have to say the snooker table my parents bought me after a major spinal operation as it was the only sport I could safely play! And models and Star Wars toys of course.

    6. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year? Do you like to give or receive gifts?

I dont know about perfect but I try and get gifts people want. Cost is secondary unless it gets really out of hand! I like buying gifts for people but I would be a bit two-faced if I didnt say I liked receiving them too!

    7. What are you hoping for Christmas? What did you did you actually get ? Bonus points for photos of your loot

Main present was a Trumpy 1/32 P51B with loads of aftermarket extras. Got loads of bits I wasnt expecting including a proper trendy long sleeve shirt, some fudge, chocs, posh fresh coffee, a gin selection from Secret Santa at work. All good stuff.

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?

I would rather impale myself on a cactus as I consider that to be less painful than visiting the shops on Boxing Day. There is a very warm place in hell for whoever came up with the idea of the Boxing Day Sale.

    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?

Wouldn't want to. Plenty of time to do that on other days and family are great company too.

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?

Any version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Favourite song is I believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake. Beautiful song.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

1.Share a pic of the Christmas tree

Don't have one of mine as we travelled for the holidays. My parents tree didn't have any ornaments on it because their new dog might eat them. :wtf:

    2. Share pic your pet(s), bonus points if dressed for Christmas

This is Goose at my MIL's house. Goose was a very good girl this year and got a ton of treats/toys.

    Image

    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?

I watch It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas eve. My wife's family has tamales and margaritas on Christmas eve. We compromised this year, having the food and drinks then home for a movie. I think we established a new Christmas eve tradition this year with my brother in law and his partner to have a glass of Japanese whiskey in addition to It's a Wonderful Life.

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?

We like driving around and looking at the house lights. Plus, I'm a big fan of the last minute Christmas shopping. Generally I get all my shopping done prior; but, I'll run around the last few days before Christmas for stocking stuffers.

I will never forget the Christmases I've spent away from home. All of those were due to military obligations, COVID-19 or being deployed. While not the most fun being gone, we made them special.

    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?

Getting my great grandfathers deer rifle (I was 16~ at the time.) It was passed from my great grandfather, to my grandpa, to my dad, then to me. The rifle was made in 1921 and is my preferred deer rifle. 100 years later, it's still putting meat on the table.

Also getting a Nintendo N64. That probably fueled a life long gaming habit.

    6. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year? Do you like to give or receive gifts?

My mom and grandma got a picture and me and the wife. We were all dressed up for a friends wedding and they loved it.

Big fan of giving gifts. I've been away from home the last 3 years because of being deployed, then COVID, so I gave about 3 years worth of gifts! The family and friends loved it!

    7. What are you hoping for Christmas? What did you did you actually get ? Bonus points for photos of your loot

Model kits and shooting supplies were requested. I actually got gift cards for model supplies. The wife got me a sonic cleaner and paint shaker, these were the highest on my list! Plus my parents took me to the Warhammer Store & Café. Sorta weird my 60+ year old parents taking their 32 year old son to the plastic toy soldier store; but, it was fun and the café was excellent.

From left to right. The paint vortex shaker thing. It's actually made to shake up lab samples. Sonic cleaner. Some Army Painter barbed wire for a diorama. Spitfire! Warhammer Store & Café dice tray and paint/coffee cup. Plus some primer and PVA glue. The two paint brushes I bought myself. We were driving around and I saw a random artist store, they had Winsor & Newton sable brushes for 60% off!

    Image

So these are an airbrush and a set of dry brushes I had preordered/crowd funded. I figured they would have shown up sometime next year but they made it in time for Christmas. They ended up under the tree, to me from Santa. :th: These are both from YouTuber's I watch for miniature modelling tips/tricks. Squidmar Miniatures and Ninjon.

The airbrush is a one shot run of an H & S Evolution series with some extra features. Plus it comes with a .4 and .2 nozzle/needle.

    Image

    Image

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?

Oh I love running around looking for stuff. This year we didn't really at all due to COVID spreading concerns.

    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?

Now that I'm back at the man cave. I have 5 straight days of modelling ahead of me. That's if I don't get sidetracked by other goodies.

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?

It's a Wonderful Life. O Holy Night Metal Cover by Adrienne Cowan. I'm not a huge fan of metal; but, Adrienne does a superb job with it.

Sorry, we didn't do a tree this year. Kinda disappointing in that there's history behind our ornaments and I like telling our boys the history. A lot of them were made by my Mom when I was about 5 years old.

    2. Share pic your pet(s), bonus points if dressed for Christmas
No pets. We almost came home with a dog on Christmas eve. My Wife's cousin said she could have one of theirs and she took it seriously. My first thought was no but then he came over and laid next to me and I started thinking yes. Turns out her cousin was just drunk and kidding.

    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?
Nothing unusual. My wife is from Mexico so we do a traditional Mexican Christmas eve with family and then a traditional American Christmas dinner with recipes my Mom would make.

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?
Just being with family. My favorite memory is just walking with my Mom one Christmas.

    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?
Nothing really stands out. I remember my Mom staying up late at night all month long sewing gifts for us 6 kids.

    6. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year? Do you like to give or receive gifts?
I don't know if I got anyone the perfect gift but everyone got what they wanted. I prefer to give but receiving is all part of allowing other to give.

    7. What are you hoping for Christmas? What did you did you actually get ? Bonus points for photos of your loot
No photos but I got what I wanted this year as well. Adam Wilder's books were re-released and I got both of those. I got a small lazy susan to place my models on while working on them so I can be just like Mike Rinaldi.

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?
I didn't look for any special deals but I got a good price on a Iwata Hi-Line HP-CH airbrush.

    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?
I lost my dining room table modeling space for the holidays so I won't get to do anything for a couple more days.

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?
I guess Christmas Vacation is my favorite movie. I worked in retail for a Christmas season 31 years ago and I still can't stand Christmas music after hearing it 8 hrs a day 5 days a week. Bah! Humbug!

So, on Christmas eve, family gathers and eats, drinks and just hang out. That's one thing about my Mexican family that I really like. Family is everything. My family isn't the same way. When in Mexico, everyone dances with grandma.

There's so much good food that you about explode. Tamales are made (that takes all day). My wife's cousins made those this year. My wife made pozole which is like menudo but made with pork instead of tripe. Menudo REALLY stinks when it's cooked not to mention I just can't bring myself to eat tripe. It is supposed to be really good though. Enchiladas and mole are also traditional. We brought home a dozen tamales and there were still a ton left over. Fresh tamales are really good but I think they're even better the next morning, reheated and with eggs and green chili.

There was a pinata for the kids, alcohol for the adults and everyone had a great time!

Late to the party on this one - I thought I'd already posted

1.Share a pic of the Christmas tree
All Mrs Tomcat's work - she's in charge of the decoration dept.
    Image

    2. Share pic your pet(s), bonus points if dressed for Christmas
This is Bonnie showing cat-level contempt for anything her humans are up to... if anyone would like to try and dress her for Christmas I'll be sure to visit you in the Emergency dept :)
    Image

    3. What unusual Christmas traditions does your family have?
Nothing that I can think of - although we probably get up to stuff without realising it's become a tradition

    4. What do you look forward to or remember about Christmas time?
Time away from work and getting together with my mum & brother.

    5. Do you have a particular good memory of a Christmas gift as a kid?
Yep too many to really go into any detail but mum & dad always made sure Christmas was good for us even when times were tight.

    6. Did you get someone the perfect gift this year? Do you like to give or receive gifts?
Not sure if I managed the "perfect" gift but I did get stuff that everyone was happy with - and yes I do like to receive as well as give but always happier giving :)

    7. What are you hoping for Christmas? What did you did you actually get ? Bonus points for photos of your loot
Kit wise I was hoping for a 1/16 Das Werk StuG but release got delayed til the new year, so my wife gave me an IOU for that :)

The family all chipped in with a decent haul of kits though - and one of these came from a friend in Canada and was escorted by Bob :cheers2:

    8. Will you hunt for any deals on Boxing Day sales?
Nope - might have a browse online in the New Year but there's nothing I'm really after at the moment.

    9. Will you get to sneak away from family and do some modelling for a bit?
Nope - but I have been able to get some good bench time in between Christmas and the New Year

    10. What is your favourite Christmas movie? favourite Christmas Song?
Nothing move-wise. And I guess my favourite Christmas song would have to be Slade's "Merry Christmas". I remember seeing Slade at the Gold Diggers club in Chippenham in December and they played that as the last encore - they only ever played it live in December so was great to see Noddy Holder dressed up as Santa :) I just looked it up... apparently it was 13th December 1982 :eeek: And for our Aussie correspondents the support act was Cold Chisel.
    Cheers, Neil
