OK, so have, in the past built Panzers i-IV so now for a V. Decided on the RFM Panther Ausf F as I wanted to use the night vision on a what-if Super Pershing at some point. Not 100% certain how this will  end up. It WILL be what-if paint (like the amusing hobby Jagdpanther II scheme (dunkelgelb with white angled stripes) but may do some of it in factory undercoat with white markings. I will also look at additional armour (a least the usual panther stuff on the wheels, maybe also anti air screens and possibly even on the turret.....



so this will be the first of 2 (the Super Pershing will be the second) 1946/7 what if where Allies + Germany were facing the unstoppable USSR who continued to fight at the end of the war....

It's a Panther so count me in whatever colours it ends up being painted.

doesnt have an interior but suspension is well rendered.....

An almost "what-if" panzer, but the kit seems to be very good!

so this is how the mock up cast steel looks in red oxide (Vallejo primer, need to find an alternative as that has just run out, time to raid MiG AMMO again)

I like the cast texture and the colour. Pin marks ?

The cast steel looks great - I just picked up a bottle of AK Interactive Red Oxide primer but haven't had chance to use it as yet but may be worth a look?

yeah this is just a test piece - RFM Panther kit comes with a sprue from the Jagdpanzer kit which includes interior plate (the front plate is 2 layers of plastic it seems).... so on its parent kit this is glued to more plastic and so pin marks never seen

after a number of discussions, I decided that only "odd shaped" parts were cast... so these have been coated in Mr Surfacer 500. Hull is just placed on for now....







 

a fair chunk of progress... the major components on the hull and turret are now done and I have one run of tracks done (they are workable). As you know, I love adding just a little extra so have done some mesh screens (turret and main engine deck vent)... think they work OK...

What did you use for the mesh screens?

Mesh screens worked well, just need some bolt heads and large washers to finish them off.

build finished..... added an extra set of spare tracks on the turret.... still not 100% decided on a paint scheme... might be "giraffe" style dunkelgelb and green (or brown) hull and then red oxide turret....

its all gone black.... hope to get Dunkelgelb and red oxide on tomorrow.... think the hull will have dunkelgelb stripes and faded green patches....

Basic paint on -



Dunkelgelb with mottled lighter shades for the hull (still need to work on the camo scheme, just faded green I think)

red oxide primer and one mottled shade for the hull (also have one wheel and one rear stowage bin like this)

ash grey and one shade mottle for barrel

started the masking.... going for "camel" with green (not sure on what green still, thats this mornings job)

it was valejo red oxide primer... and then added some white to give a bit of fade (it was an old bottle, need something new in the MiG Ammo range

and of course course I meant giraffe not camel !!!!!!!

its gone green.... really pleased with that (less so with how I tried to add parts from other tanks (ie engine deck and one harth).. oh well, can weather them differently



















and with the turret

turret has had pin wash and matt varnish to allow me to do the factory markings. spare tracks done - just placed on turret to give me an idea on how good/bad they look

thanks... skirt rails added, should be able to to do pin wash tomorrow....

How about hard edged stripes based on red oxide primer and dungelgelb? Makes sense from a paint scarcity viewpoint? I have a Flakpanzer IV in the stash and that has an oxide / dunkelgelb scheme.

How about hard edged stripes based on red oxide primer and dungelgelb? Makes sense from a paint scarcity viewpoint? I have a Flakpanzer IV in the stash and that has an oxide / dunkelgelb scheme.

that was one of the options I had for this kit... the geshutz is an earlier war prototype for grey/yellow paint would've been available... tempted by the E-series tanks, maybe an E50 would be good in that colour (or the massive E100)
