Friday’s Egg Diatribe #26

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

This week is close to start of the Easter Egg sig build that starts April1 and runs until the 30th
Long ago when ISM still ruled the interwebs, this was a popular well supported gb.
Now only the cool guys build egg kits

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
2.Have you built one ?
3.Would you build one?
4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
5.Show us an egg you have made or a favourite from the internet…and no food pictures smarty pants

Also don’t forget, the next coolest sig, Summer SciFi/ Fantasy starts May 1st so get your kits ready!

1. Sorry not a fan, just kids toys is the how they seem to me. The total opposite of what many try to emulate.

2. No
3. No.....unless it was for a grandkid would be the exception.

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
I like them; I understand what Digger is saying about them being toys but for me they are a little light relief and can be a quick diversion away from the more serious subjects. The original Hasegawa egg-planes can be a little hit & miss in terms of fit but they don't take too much fettling for the most part. I've built a couple of Meng kits too and they go together nicely the only downside being that the "Meng Kids" aircraft have stickers rather than decals which lets them down a bit but it does say "kids" on the box :)
2.Have you built one ?
Yep - I've built five of them (four planes and a tank), although two were joined together to form a single display.
3.Would you build one?
Yep - I've got four in the stash, three planes and a tank which I'm planning for this year's egg party.
4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
Yep - as mentioned I've already done planes & a tank and might pick up a ship at some point.

Hello !
I've missed the last 2 questions so time to answer this one !

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
No interest for them at all. I think Digger said it, for me they are more like kids toys. Although the tank from Tomcat looks pretty cool. And I have to say, I never saw one for sale at my local hobby stores. And the 2 I buy from frequently from on the internet don't sell them either.

2.Have you built one ?
No.

3.Would you build one?
No.

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
I actually didn't !! I thought they were only planes. And it's when I saw Tomcat pictures I learned of other. But since I never had any interest in them, never really look at them in stores.

5.Show us an egg you have made or a favourite from the internet…and no food pictures smarty pants
None to show

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?

Meh, they are cute but not really my thing. That said, I can still appreciate a good and quality build regardless of the subject.

2.Have you built one ?

Just one, I built it with my handicapped son, Jarrod. He picked it out and did 75% of the work while I helped hand over hand.

3.Would you build one?

Not for myself, but perhaps another for Jarrod if he wants one.

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?

Yes sir, I've seen several brands and subjects

5.Show us an egg you have made

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
Well, I have mixed feelings about these kits. On the one hand, I find the concept to be interesting and fun, somewhat reminiscent of the old Ed Roth kits. On the other hand, I don't build military subjects, and find it a bit disconcerting that kit manufacturers are cute-ing up war machines to attract young builders (Meng even has a toon tank with Santa in the turret, and another with cupid in the turret), especially in light of what is going on in Ukraine (lest we forget the actual purpose of war materiel). There are some non-military subjects available, though, and probably more will become available if egg or toon kits remain popular.

2.Have you built one ?
Not an egg or toon kit, but Suyata came out with a series of four armored nut kits-- various nuts wearing various weaponless power suits, and I built the armored peanut.

3.Would you build one?
Yes, I'd build another non-military kit.

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
Yes

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
Ambivalent I suppose. They aren't my scene really but I can see the attraction and fun in them for those who do like them.

2.Have you built one ?
Yes - I think. The Russian Post one afriend sent me

3.Would you build one?
Should read "would I build another one" - to which I'd have to say probably not.

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
Oh yes.

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
I find them a fun distraction and an opportunity to try out new techniques or ideas with a relatively low cost.

    2.Have you built one ?
    Two.

    3.Would you build one?
I just checked my limited stash; if I had one I'd consider it.

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
    Yup.

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?

They're a fun non-standard artistic outlet. Also, it's the only type of kit I've gotten my wife to build.

    2.Have you built one ?

    Yes, several.

    3.Would you build one?

    Yes!

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?

Yep, it seems like there are more everyday.

1.How do you feel about egg, non scale, models kits?
What a brilliant question, thank you for asking. I absolutely love these kits, they lend themselves to small dioramas or vignettes and often have a tongue in cheek, less serious focus so the modeller can let go and enjoy themselves. Great mojo rejuvenators and great for kids.
I especially like the mini egg tank kits
    Image

    2.Have you built one ?
Interestingly , I have built a number of them. I usually do so in a wonderful little Easter sig on ISM Forum that runs for the month of April @internationalscalemodeller.com
The ones I have built for ISM Easter sig:

    3.Would you build one?
No, never. I am stuck in my ways and refuse to have any fun modelling and only build serious respectable topics.

4.Did you know they come in many varieties?
    Indeed.

Someone mentioned DaveDeals and EdRoth. Those guys put more fun into boring model making with exciting fun kits that kids can build and have fun with….and adults tooImage

    See above for mine.
Here are a couple I would love to duplicate. There are so many more across all topics.

I like them! They give you a chance to lighten up a bit and not take things so seriously.

    2.Have you built one ?
Yes, I have built a couple.

    Absolutely!
