B-52D Boeing Stratofortress--1/175 Revell

I just grabbed this off the shelf of doom. It is the old Revell box scale B-52D. It was originally issued in 1954 making it a year younger than me. It was altered around 1960 or so and had the X-15 added to it. It was altered again in the late 60s or early 70s and a plug was added to the wing and it became a B-52C, I think. I found an old Air Commando boxing from 1976, I had originally built this kit the same boxing but earlier in I believe 1970. The decals, what there is of them, say it is a B-52C but I am doing it as a B-52D from the "linebacker" era in Vietnam. It is not super accurate or detailed but all I really want is a desk model on a stand. I wish Revell had kept the old clear stand with the globe base and swivel ball, the new one is wimpy and cheap. Here is what is done so far. John

The wings and engines along with the wing tanks. I have it sitting on the stand, next to it is the small decal sheet. John

Here's the 1954 instructions. The parts are the same with the exception of the stand and the original kit had the smaller wing tanks. The newer kit I have has the 3000 gallon tanks most used. John

Almost ready to spray the bottom black, I just need some masks on the engines and wing tanks. John

That's come together really quickly and is HUGE even in that scale.

Yeah it's big but not quite as big as it's big brother, Minicraft 1/144 B-52F. That's on hold until I finish the Revell one. The Minicraft will be NMF with a black belly. I am putting that one also in flight on a stand with the flaps dropped. John
