Something if a rarity this one, and little is known about the actual aircraft.

Please bear in mind that

A) I am a little ham fisted
B) I am considerably less skilled than most of the modellers on here,

Anyway, the kit is a short run affair and I expect to have some real gap ussues. It also only has the most basic of cockpits, I therefire decided to scratch some addutions and steal a Bf109 instrument pannel.

Image

It might not be 'etch' quality but it will do.

I failed to snap a shot of the pale blue that I did the underside but I then masked and did it in vallejo model colour flat green.

Thanks,

Unfortunatly because this is the first time I have ussd an airbrush I either thinned the paint too much, was too close or didn't mask correctly (or all three) and the green has seeped under the masking

Image

I guess I'll have to deal with that later and meanwhile, push on and mask up for the black half of the camo

If anyone is interested ( I know it's not the most popular period) but the camo is now done.

Its the first time I have done camo with an airbrush (first model I have done with one full stop) and I'm REALLY happy about how crisp the lines are and ow much nicer the whole thing looks

Image

I also have sorted the undersides problem nicely, from being a mess of a build it has turned into something I'm enjoying (alongside tbe StuG)

That looks ace mate. Airbrushing is magic once you get the hang of it, took me about a year to get it spot regularly!

OK so not much has been done on this due the the WW2 GB but in between building sections of that I have done a little on this.

I gave the entire model a coat (3 actually) of clear ready for decalling (but found that the leeky msnshed has rained all over them!!! Good job I have spares)

However, due to a mishap with the landing gear axle bearings being broken I had to find a way of repairing them. In the end I hollowed out some sprue.

Image

Then sliced a piece off and superglued it in

Image

I was pleased with this. Next, the exhausts, the kit supplied ones were just a randomly shaped lump of plastic, I replaced them with legnths of needle bent to shape

Please be honest, do they look OK? I can't decide.

Well done sir, looking superb.. And the exhausts are fine....:thumb1:
...and because I have been watching you and a couple of others with their 1:72 planes I have gone out and ordered a couple.
1:72 scale both of them.
A corsair f4u-5 and a little mc200 saetta. I was also eyeing up some biplanes for the WW1 GB but we'll see ....

Just for reference buysend.com nice and cheap but limited stock.
Free postage and using their site is slightly cheaper than their eBay shop plus if you buy more than one of something the price comes down..... :th:

Good recovery on the undercarriage! And I think the exhausts look fine from where I'm sitting. But where do you get those needles from? I really don't want to go and befriend the local crack dealer! Lol

Left over from treatment a few years ago, but then I do work for a hospital as well.

I hate to break it to you UK, your skills with scratch and repairs are very inventive and accurate.
You're a very good modeller and it looks like you're getting a pretty goo handle on the airbrushing for your first go.
Time and practice will hammer out any little things you have trouble with.
This little plane looks great to me, your painting, scratching, and repairs are all bang on.

More please?

Thank you for saying so. I tend to be quite self critical about most things I do so it's nice to see how my skills have developed over the last 6 months. Watching you tube videos has helped tons.

Thanks again.

I'm going to call time on this one, more because I have had enough of it  than it being totally finished. I haven't weathered it

There is a large catalouge of things that went wrong with it, most of them tinight (along with possibly having screwed up the Bf109Z :bash: , more on that at the weekend). Mostly my fault, some, the fact that Amodel kits are REALLY badly made.

On the positive side, the nasty blotches that appeared after micro soling the decals seems to have gone away after drying and a coat if clear. Also my first attempt at rigging a biplane (although there is not much to do on this one) went REALLY well I think  . The Amodel decals were AWFUL in so many ways, I used a really nice aftermarket soviet stars set.

Please be honest and let me know what I should/could have done different/better.

Anyway, here is my Beriev Be-2, Northern Russia, Summer 1941.

I'm not sure why you were upset UK... she looks fine to me.
That rigging would have driven me nuts... I'm sure of that.
She looks great Dude.
That camo would have been hell to paint and you seem to have nailed it.
I hope things aren't completely pear shaped with the BF 109.

Its the fit of the top wing thats really bad, nothing lines up.

It is my second since coming back to modelling and is better than.my first, so as long as that is the case I guess I'm happy. That said I always think I can.do better.

The 109 just needs resanding after undercoating as it is really badly grained and the cowlings are too lumpy, running out of time.

Thank you for your kind words.

You've done a great job though buddy :th:

I think it looks good mate. I know you had issues with the paint but that kind of random streak effect is not out of place on a soviet aircraft of this era. They we asked to build so many, so quick, so cheaply the paint was pretty much slapped on by a team of partly trained guys. You can often spot that sort of variation in the old photos although it can be tricky in black & white. Call it a happy accident! You can always go back and do some weathering later when you have your mojo back.

Thanks all, I suppose its not too bad and I may well revisit it once, as 5Craven says, I have my mojo back.

Given that there are limitations with the kit, I think you've done a good job mate. As 5craven has said they slapped the paint on in the field, and it was the numptys that they couldn't trust with a spanner that did the painting :) Also they would have been painting onto mixed surfaces as well, i.e. metal, wood and canvas so variations would have been natural.

The only suggestion that I would make is in regard to the rigging, and personally I would use battleship grey colour on it as opposed to the light grey colour that is on there. This is just a personal preference btw. :)

errrmmm admission time  , I didn't ACTUALLY paint the rigging  , it was light grey sprue!

How lazy am I

thanks though, I wasn't sure what colour it should be.
