Steering Wheel

I used my modelling skills to finish this steering wheel I made for my son's racing simulator. He's 10 and and can almost beat my lap times...

It's made from carbon fibre, wood, and leather, and uses the electronics from a Logitech G29 wheel and works well, especially with the gear change buttons on the handles.

That's indeed a pretty cool project ! and out of the ordinary. Even cooler that it's actually a real one !

Thanks all. It was indeed something different and a lot of fun to make. I'll post some vid of it in action in a little while, it looks cool with the rev indicator lighting up at the top.

My son likes it a lot but his hands will have to grow into it. He's been racing sims since he was 4 and now at 10 he can drive around a track without crashing into a corner. I used to sit with him when was little and tell him to 'brake brake brake' and watched him crash into a thousand corners. Watching him now flog an F1 car around a circuit nearly as fast as an experienced adult is the end of many years of practice.

The day after I finished it he was at the work bench carving up bits of leather and made a decent book mark. I think he was inspired to make something which is a good sign.
