As most of you know, I'm going for the Tamiya PII as it only cost £9.00 and is my first crack at 1/35 AFV....

I was thinking of doing a Panzer II lol

Ordered some bits and pieces so TBC

For my first GB on ISM, I'll be doing the same Tamiya Panzer II as Lee (a fantastic kit by the way, this'll be my second one!) but I'll be adding a 75mm L/24 "snub gun", the type on most early of Panzer IVs, as seen in a reference photo. This Panzer II was modified this way in the field, the howitzer bolted onto the front of the turret!

Unfortunately, I can't show this photo, it's a screenshot on my ipod taken a year ago, but search "Panzer II Winter Camo" or something along those lines (I forget and can't find it) on Google Images and you may come across it.

I am tempted to join in, and with my birthday at the end of November I can ask for a PzII, and with it not being a very big tank I could try to get it finished in time. If not then I would still have a PzII to build...

you ARE making this so hard..........

i`m going to enter a second build into the cold war GB ( LAV-150 APC 90mm Mecar Gun ) and i really want to enter this PZ II SIG.........
but i don`t know if i can make the time free for it to give it the attention it deserves......

I´ll go for Tascas rare Panzer II L version

Don´t want to sound like a smartass guys, but i think i should say that: The box of the Tamiya Panzer II has a mistake on it, as you know it is supposed to be the F or G variant. The G version is supposed to be the one with the stowage bin on the rear of the turret, but thats wrong. The model shows a F version, the stowage bin can be added if you wish so but it makes no difference with regard to the version.

It is somewhat the predecessor of the L version i´m going to build. No rivet-counting or with bad intention, i just want to let you know

I have plenty of books and in one i found a pretty interesting battle report of a German Panzer II tank commander, the whole action took place in France, 1940. I shortened the report a bit and translated it (i hope you don´t mind any grammar and spelling mistakes!):

"...While the second platoon surrounded the city of Sesanne, the command platoon followed by the first platoon drove right into the center of the city. On the southern end of the city nearby the train station we encountered three heavy Char B1 tanks of the enemy. We had no heavy weapons, our 2cm tank guns could not damage them in any way. Fortunately the enemy fled when he sighted our column. The second platoon fired at routing convoys and took a lot of prisoners. We were able to capture six intact aircraft on the airfield nearby the city. Then we transfered the position to the 36th regiment and drove southwards.
Everywhere we encountered retreating enemy convoys. We fired at them and made litereally hundreds of prisoners. In St. Troy for example our light tanks took 500 prisoners. From time to time the enemy resisted.
It was 6.30 PM already when our regiment received the order to advance towards the Seine river, to capture the bridge in Marcilly and to form a bridgehead in Romilly.
From now on we did not care at all about enemy convoys. They were shooting at us, but we simply passed them on the streets, hell, we had only one destination: The Seine river!
It was dark already, but we had a long way to travel. Nearby Marcilly we encoutered enemy infantry, but they just threw their rifels away and ran.
We arrived in Marcilly at 10 PM. Here the situation was a lot different: The enemy was shooting at us from all sides. We heard the dull "tack-tack" of the French machine guns.
Our canons were respected by the enemy, but they resisted. The second platoon advanced slowly with great effort towards the bridge. Right infront of the bridge we saw several barricades, we were under fire from MG´s and tank hunters. The situation was critical, because we could not see the other side of the river clearly. The platoon-adjutant, lieutenant Malgruth decided to scout the area on foot, he was accompanied by the commander of the regiment Heinz Guderian. One tank provided cover fire for them.
Then our engineers and scouts occupied the buildings nearby the bridge and attacked the enemy on the other side. Suddenly three engineers and lieutenant Stoff ran over the bridge in a suicidal attempt to capture it. The bridge was littered with explosive devices, but the enemy had no time to blow them up. Malgruth and Guderian followed the engineers.
Guderian jumped from the bridge right into a French trench, he was in a very dangerous situation, but one well aimed grenade saved him, he was not wounded.
The French were forced to surrender after this short harsh battle, we brought our troops over the bridge...."

Thanks for the correction Michael! I think this is why I made that exact thread about how to give constructive criticism/advice/information without sounding like a rivet counter. This is the perfect example. I think it's very important to educate ourselves about the particular subject which is being built! Thanks again Michael!

You are welcome I did not feel like posting this in one of the building threads, it belongs here as a general point about this kit. Its just a mistake with regard to the writing on the box, it does not affect the model in any way. For its age its a lovely model, i still remember when i got mine many years ago in Munich, i was amazed by the kit

It is also that you are not critisising the build or a modeller, but the kit. That I'm fine with, plus your obviously immense depth of panzer knowledge.

Am looking forward to what I'm sure will be an epic looking Pz II from you

quick question.. does it have to be a panzer 2 tank or can it be a panzer 2 hull? eg an anti tank version?

From what I understand from the rules it's only pzIIs not the variants.

This has given me the idea of ONLY doing the hull, a PzII burnt out wreck....

I will be a later starter on this as my company sent me to the UK to help out on a project. Hope to be back in time to get on with the build.

No. Just Panzer II´s are allowed, no vehicles which use the Panzer II chassis.
