Hi all,

This is going to be my first build,I think this will take me a long while to complete and I'm in no rush to do it, so will take my time to get each stage correct.

Hopefully this will mean I can slowly build up the knowledge and tools as I get to each stage of the build.

First things first.

What am I building?

This car isn't particularly successful or famous, I just think it looks awesome and I love a good under dog story.

Plenty of reference photos to try build this. Most decals should be able to be priced together from decal sets.red pinstripe and snail will be a challenge later on.

What will the base kit be?

I have two kits to use and stitch together, the revell standard z28 will give me the correct engine and I believe gearbox along with hopefully some interior trim.

I have also got the fast and furious yenko Camaro for the correct front light/grill set up, a spare body to trial bits on and will see if wheels are suitable for my build (think will need to go wider).

I have also ordered the photoetch set for the Camaro for detail and badges. (But this will be used later in build).

What is the plan?

I will be flaring the arches, so will work out best way to do this, again advantage of the two body shells.

At moment I like the idea of opening the doors and boot up but that is probably very ambitious. I will be building a race interior with correct replicated roll cage (the car is believed to still have it's original roll cage, built by a chinetti engineer).

Step 1:

First step will be laying out the two kits to see what parts will be used and what/if any differences in the kits suspension and axles. I want to see if the yenko possibly has a more 'race' set up.

I've helped myself slow the build down more by sending the z28 kit to my parents address... Thatll be picked up Christmas

But I've started on a body shell.

Boot lid cut out, have removed lots of moulded body details, badges,mold lines and indicators.

I've also split the door card to 3 components and removed the arm rest.

Dash has received a chop too.

Next is doors to be removed and then to look at how to mock up the roll cage.

Few ideas for the arches.

I've ordered a third Camaro as back up parts car ...

Very nice project and what a way to start kit building! Look forward to watching the build progress.

I've done a lot more cutting, new floor will be constructed and interior tub, will reuse part of transmission tunnel and rear parcel shelf.

Fuel tanks been removed off chassis for a printed race tank replacement.

Wheels have been ordered too through demon resins.

Looking very professional and smooth.

Good start for a first build, soon the next step?

Started work on the engine,

The engine with the 3d printed carbs will be used for the race car.

The big block is the original yenko kit engine. I may have enough parts from the 2 kits to still make use and create some kind of hot rod road car

It's coming along nicely. How are to body mods coming along?

Not started arches yet, waiting on styrene to redo the floors and start cage work.

So the majority of the engine is built.

I've noted on the real car there is no fan but also a 4th drive and additional belt on the front end.

I'm no mechanic or expert on engines, what would that be for and why. I feel it's something I could change replicate?

I stuck with the hot red racing engine, it's a nice contrast to the all black car.

I want to wire up the engine but the air filter currently makes acces to the drilled distributer difficult. So going to think about what to do.

Instructions also show the big block engine so I have a odd part that has no place which supposidly sat to the right of the dizzy (when looking from the front). I've left it out as cannot see one on any reference photos.

Has anyone wired up a Revell Z28?

I've cut out the fuel cell and replaced with some plastic card.

Will fill it out and tidy it up.
